If i hand feed him he will eat but if i leave him in cage by himself with the food he wont eat it. we have had him for about a month and this was a problem at first but the vet gave us some special kind of food and he started to eat it on his own. the past week or so he doesnt seem to want to eat on his own! I took him back to the vet and he sai dhes not sick or anything...im not sure what to do I cant keep hang feeding him! has anyone had this problem? or can anyone give me some sugestions?

As a vet tech i can tell you that you do want to break him of this habit. you can try adding some type of beef broth to his food or can food to make it more intresting for him. You MUST alwasy make sure that he is eating. Little dogs can easily get hypoglacemic if they're not eating. they're sugar level drops and it can be very serious. Ask your vet for something called Nutrical. (you can also get it in a pet supply store) it's a sugar/vitamin supplement that will keep his sugar level up if he stops eating. you can also use it one his food to intice him or offer it to him like a treat. it comes in a tube like toothpaste.
Good Luck!!!

We had that problem too. Definitely dont hand feed him, if he is hungry, he will eat (advice from our vet!). We also put a little bit of olive oil on our dog's food which she LOVES and now she eats much better! It also really helps her coat.
