If and when you have children, what will your work situation be? Stay home? Work at home? Continue to work and use daycare/family member?

Re: Q of the D
I'd love to stay home but i dont think its financially feasable. Another reason i want to wait a year or two to have a baby cuase maybe we will be in a better financial situation. If not, i am going to try to work from home 2 days a week and go in 3 days a week. We'll see.

Financially I have to work. I also never imagined myself not working even if I had children. So I'll be coming back to work, maybe as a contractor which is what I'm doing now. it gives a little more flexbility.

Re: Q of the D
well since im alreay in this position i decided to stay home only because i didnt make that great of money at my previous job so even if i worked more than half of my earnings per week would go to daycare so it made sense for me to stay home and FH to provide for us

I would love to be able to stay home with my kids but we both know that we cannot do that so my children will go to Grandma's day care! (my mom)

Re: Q of the D
I plan to use family members and day care and go back to work. I love what I do and I feel like it's very fulfilling in my life. I know i will want to stay home with my children when the time does come, but financially I don't think that we could do it.

Re: Q of the D
I would love to stay home. But I know I wont. I will have my mom to help with my children.
I kinda of don't want to in a way. I hope FH's job will allow me to stay home until my child is several months old. But also since I will be a teacher I need tenure so if I have a child before that I will not be able to take maternaty leave likeI could plan. Plus after spending so much $$ on school with loans I want to be able to work while I have children. I want to be there while they grow but I feel I have a great job to help me do that sicne my children will be off same time as I will be.

I did work and you are right over half my pay went to daycare- just better off money wise to stay home beside look at what we get to play with everyday

Re: Q of the D
i have mixed emotions about this.
If money is not an issue, i think I would stay home the first few years and then go back to work full time.
The thought of being a stay at home mom kind of scares me, i think I would be bored out of my mind! not to mention that I have a career, I don't know if I want to give it all up since i worked hard for it, went to school and have a masters, I think I want the best of both worlds

Re: Q of the D
Hopefully at that point, we'll be living in PA and FH will be a regional manager and making $$.
He wants me to be a stay at home, at least until the kids are in school. And even then, he'd like me to only work while they're in school. The idea sounds ok, but I like working. Fortunately, in my field, I can be a closer (just go to closings to have docs signed) and make my own hours.
HIs mom was always home until he was older, so thats what he's used to.
My mom always worked and my grandma watched us. But I know my mom won't be quitting or retiring anytime soon.

Re: Q of the D
it seems everyone has similar feelings.
I would love to be a stay at home mom, like my mother was for the first 16 years of my life, but at this point it doesn't seem financially possible. I'll probably stay home for the first 3 months or so and then probably go back to work part time. In my field and school i'm lucky that they'll let me come back 3-4 days a week. otherwise, i'll try to see some clients through an agency. My mom said she would help out, but she't not retiring for another few years, so she probably won't be much help in the beginning. only time will tell!

IDEALLY, I'd like to stay home, but we can't do that now, especially living on LI. We've talked about moving to maryland... The only reason I'm even thinking about it is bc it will give me the chance to stay home with my babies.
You're not allowed to move!

My mom stayed home with me until I was 10! We used to go shopping, go out to lunch, go to plays... it was a lot of fun!

Re: Q of the D
ideally, DH would love to be a stay at home dad. when the time comes though, we will probably both have to still work, although one of us will try to work in LI, as we both work in the city now.

Re: Q of the D
I will take some time off but I think I will go back. I really want to be with my family though, so I'd love to start a business out of my house. If we could afford it, FH would love to be a stay at home dad, but I worry that the children would never go to school. He does say that he'd take them to museums and stuff....

Re: Q of the D
I would like to be a stay at home mom. My mother stayed home with us most of our childhood years and it was definitely worth it (in her mind and our minds). She was always there to see us off in the morning, welcome us when we got back, stay home when we were sick, take us to soccer, dance, etc, etc, do homework with us, etc, etc, make sure we stayed out of trouble!
Anyway, I do think I could get alittle bored and may miss the social interaction. BUT I do want to take up photography and that will be the perfect time!
