My first question! Okay so I know some of us are still newly engaged but I'm sure you can still answer this. What has surprised you the most so far about the wedding planning process? Or just being engaged in general?


I have been surprised with how uninterested certain family and friends have been. I am not a self centered person and tend to keep to myself and don't expect people to ask me all the time about what I've planned and what I've been doing. But people that I thought would be more interested kind of don't care. It's kind of annoying especially when it's FH parents who want nothing to do with the process. We've been together almost 7 years, its not like us getting married was going to be a surprise.

I know exactly how you feel! I feel like no one really cares and I am doing this all on my own. I'm glad I have a few friends that are planning too so I can at least talk to them about it. I feel like

But the most surprising thing about planning is how expensive everything is. Major sticker shock. I knew things were going to be expensive, but I had no idea just how expensive!

Good question! I was definitely shocked about how expensive a wedding in NY is & that I am as laid back as I am (or I think I am haha).
Aw that makes me sad that you both feel that way! My FH's family isn't involved either but both my sisters are married so they are loving planning mine lol. At least we all have each other. We should plan a get together for all the 2015 brides!

Yes a get together would be cool! Having other brides around who truly understand what each other are going through! LIW forums have been like a support group lol

What has surprised me most was how there were many things I originally didn't think I wanted or needed but magically I got engaged and now I want it all! This is not helping my budget at all lol.. I'm also surprised at how much I HATE wedding planning in general but LOVE the whole being engaged stage.. There's something about this in between stage I love and makes me super excited to marry the man

I have been surprised at how easy it has been. We don't have a ton booked yet, but the things we do have booked went so smoothly. I always hear horror stories about the whole wedding planning process, but I am loving it! I don't feel stressed or nervous about anything. Its just moving along so nicely. Hopefully this is how it will be the whole time lol.

And I agree with Jack84 - we should definitely plan a 2015 Bride meet up! I think it would be so much fun.

I just booked at the West Sayville Country Club and it was so easy. We are in the process of looking for a band and a photographer and I can't believe how expensive they are. People weren't lying when they said 20,000 is a cheap wedding.

I think what has most surprised me is that the true colors of people really come out when you're engaged. people i haven't spoken to in years suddenly want to be my friend and people who i thought were my friends want nothing to with helping me plan. Things have been really rough because im back in Boston finishing up my last semester of college and have to do a lot of planning from up here.

The most shocking part is the logistics like hotel planning and getting ready planning and limos so frustrating!! I am way ahead of myself that I am afraid I am going to be bored when it is closer lol

Good question... I think I'm surprised at myself. I am typically a high stressed person and also someone who cares about pleasing others but I was given advice at the beginning of my engagement that no matter what there is always going to be someone who is pissed off about something and I remember that with every decision and have been able to remember that it's about us and it's our day.... All while staying slightly stress free.

I agree with you guys talking about cost - the sticker shock of how much everything really costs has surprised me the most! It's making me think I'm in the wrong profession & should get into the wedding business! haha

But I think our time & money will pay off for a beautiful & memorable day :)

EVERYONE asks how is the wedding planning going? I want to scream I hate it! lol between prices, wanting things we can't afford, having no time to do it, and the stress it SUCKS!! lol
being engaged is fun, fh loved to ' show off' I'm stores.... says things like ' she loves me, she said yes' ' heywe are getting married' too complete strangers lmao!!
also I thought fh was going to be a typical guy and not care about anything! he went to so many places with me, likes to vito alot of things. but not come up with another idea lol

I'm surprised with how hard it is to make certain decisions. Also, I thought planning from a neighboring state wouldn't be this hard, but it is. It's so much easier to sit down with people in person and that's why I feel so behind with the process. I hope it starts coming along because I'm starting to get super nervous that I haven't booked a DJ or photographer yet.
