QOTD 10.29.13

Good morning ladies...what great answers you had yesterday. Today's question is short and sweet.

What do you plan to call your future in-laws?

Right now I still refer to my FFIL as Mr.H, I find myself purposely not calling him anything because I don't know what to call him. I don't think I am going to call him Dad once we're married, so I guess one day he'll just end up grandpa.

I call them by first names and always have. It's the way they introduced themselves and preferred to be called.

This. I don't think I would feel comfortable calling them 'mom' and 'dad' since they really aren't. I'm sure once we have kids I will refer to them as 'grandma' and 'grandpa'.

QOTD 10.29.13 - Long Island Weddings

I call them by their first names and always have. FH calls my parents the same but sometimes jokes calling my dad Pops & my mom Mother lol And they return the favor by calling him Son

I dont plan to call them anything different- FH calls his step dad by his first name so I def wouldn't call him anything different & honestly no one could replace my parents so I will not be calling anyone else mom or dad.

QOTD 10.29.13 - Long Island Weddings

this is such a good question because it can be so strange getting in the habit of using new names or titles. I have no problem calling FMIL by her first name, it still feels a little awkward calling FFIL by his first name. As far as FH with my parents, i actually think he still says Mr. + Mrs. D. I always wonder if i'll end up calling my in laws mom and dad.

QOTD 10.29.13 - Long Island Weddings

I call them by their first names as of now... but truth is, I often call my own parents by their first name (weird habit that formed, i know lol) I wouldn't have a problem calling them mom and dad- I've lived with them for over a year so we are really close! When we have kids I'm sure we will refer to them by their 'grandparent' names!

QOTD 10.29.13 - Long Island Weddings

There's SO many parents between mine and FH's families. Both of our parents are divorced and everyone is re-married except his mom. So, it's two dads, two step moms, two moms and one step dad. We're all on a first name basis, it just makes things easier. Except his mom, god give me strength. Luckily, we already have a daughter, so everyone calls her Abuela now anyway. lol.

I do the same thing! I'm so awkward when it comes to this. I wait for his parents to look my way then talk- if they don't look at me then I'm the quietest person in the room lol

QOTD 10.29.13 - Long Island Weddings

FH and I have been together for 6 years ... after about 2 his mom asked me to stop calling them Mr. & Mrs. because they thought it was too informal. For me, old habbits die hard so it was a rough adjustment for me to call them by their first names. Shortly after they said I could start calling them mom & dad but to me, that's too sentimental. Not that I don't LOVE them, but those are reserved for my parents and they understood. I call them Mama & Papa D

I've always called FMIL by her first name and will probably continue to do so. I don't think I'd ever feel comfortable calling her 'mom.'

QOTD 10.29.13 - Long Island Weddings

I've always called FH's parents by their first names, and he has done the same for my parents. Once we got engaged he stated calling my parents Mom and Dad once in awhile. I'm close with his parents and I'd like to call his parents Mom and Dad, but right now I'm definitely in the awkward transition period. LOL

QOTD 10.29.13 - Long Island Weddings

When I'm talking TO them or about them to my friends... I call his mom by her name.. and I just refer to his father as 'his dad'.

Like LadyReeRee... I just sort of look in his direction when he talks to me.

But.. when I talk to FH about his parents... I refer to them as 'mom and dad'

When we got engaged it was right before christmas so I had labeled everything like... 'Mrs. G' and 'Mr. G'... and she looked at it and she's like 'just call me mom!'

and while the gesture is nice... I can't.
