QOTD 10.29.13 - Long Island Weddings

I've gotten used to calling his mom by her first name. But his dad I definitely don't call anything. I just speak when eye contact is made lol I refer to him as his first name but I could never just call him that lol. FH's parents are separated and its just two different vibes in their homes lol. Oh well.

QOTD 10.29.13 - Long Island Weddings

I call FH's mom and grandma as mom and grandma. I have been doing so for over a year, and it just feels comfortable. I call my own parents mummy and daddy, so there's no conflict in referring to FMIL as mom. FH used to call my parents Mr. and Mrs. 'last name'. But since we got engaged, my parents told him that he can call them mom and dad if he likes, and he does.

First names only, except for when I'm speaking OF his mom. Then I have a very colorful set of pet names for her.....

I grew up with my parents calling their in-laws by their first names, and so did FH so there was never the expectation of mom/dad. I think families who do it are nice, but I personally feel like it's disrespectful to my own parents.

this. they have always insisted on mr. and mrs. which i really dislike. it is ridiculous that after three years i'm still writing 'dear mr. and mrs.' in christmas and birthday cards. when we first got engaged, they asked me what i wanted to call them and i said mom and dad, although i highly doubt i will ever really call them that.
