Thanks so much Kim for making me botw! You did a great job & had some pretty wild question!!
This was a question that they asked in Pre Cana class that I found pretty interesting. What is the amount of money you feel that you can spend without telling or discussing with your fh? What do you think he would say? When you speak with him ~ask him & compare.
I had said 175 & fh said 200. That wasn't that far off. There was one couple that said 50 & the other said 5000. I honestly thought that fh was going to say more--just because a few years ago he bought a car without telling me--glad those days are over!!

Personally, I spend whatever I want....and never think to consult him. It's my money. But, he really does have to ask me...because he is sooo irresponsible with money...and will spend every penny he has without thinking twice

This has never came up in conversation but I am pretty sure he wouldnt spend anything over $100 w/o consulting with me first especailly with the wedding right around the corner...and the same for me.

I'm going to go with $200. I'll ask him later on...right now he's running some errands so I can catch up on tv.
good question. I say about $200, but it also depends on what it was as well...

Well, FH and I each have our own checking accounts, along with a joint checking/savings. As far as I'm concerned, he can spend any amount he wants out of his personal money...that's what its there for and the same goes for me.
As far as the joint checking/savings goes, we tell each other every time we use the money in there, unless its a small purchase (a meal for FSD or something like that). I tell him when I pay bills out of there, we let each other know when we transfer money to or from there, etc.
Ditto on that!

Hmmm... right now our banking is still separate and most of our $$ goes towards the house or wedding so we don't really consult each other since it is stuff we 'need.' I would say up to $250... anything over that I would tell him...
And now I'm going to ask him what he thinks...
He actually made an excellent point... he said it would depend on what it is... if I went out and spent $250 on a pair of shoes he would be like W T F but if I went out and bought a new washer dryer for whatever they cost he wouldn't care. By the same token if he wanted a new gaming system he would consult me but if he were out and wanted to buy a new couch (which he admitted would never happen because he has no taste in furniture) that is a different story.
