'What is respect? It's pouring your hot water at night when you've had a long day. It's holding the door for you, and kissing you good night.... It's caring for your parents and his. And this respect should stay AFTER marriage'

Re: QOTD 2 February 9
We were together for over 4yrs already when he asked so everyone was kinda just waiting for it (besides me lolz..for some reason it was just never really on my mind) He didnt ask my dad (they dont even talk, even I dont talk to my dad..but yet we live together lolz long story!) Anyway, my mom was involved with getting the ring, and she knew it was happening...my FH planned a cruise with me and him and my whole family so that he could propose and I could have my mother there because I am the BIGGEST mamas girl ever!

Re: QOTD 2 February 9
Everyone knew it was going to happen but me! Apparently he called my dad a couple of weeks before asking me. My dad told my mom who told my sister (who I was shocked to find out she actually kept a secret). Then my mom told my aunt and grandmother. My dad told my uncles and grandfather. FH told his parents (who held onto the ring until that night), and his two sisters.
He proposed at 1:30AM Christmas Day so we had just gotten home from Christmas Eve celebrations at my aunts house where EVERYONE there knew and not one person let it slip! I am still amazed!!

Re: QOTD 2 February 9
Shortly after FH proposed, I casually said, 'So, did you ask my dad for permission?' His face was priceless! His reply was 'Ohh, no. I forgot to do that. Should I have?' My dad did not care though. We have been best friends since we were 14 and have been dating for almost 5 years. My parents love him and totally approve! Ever since I first became friends with FH, my dad has always said that he's a 'stand-up guy.'

Yes he certainly did! There was a call for a snow story in Decemeber 07 on a Thursday night. My FH convinced me to sleep over a co-workers apt so that it was closer for my morning commute. he asked me two days later on Saturday. Immediately after he popped the big question, he was telling me how he asked my parents permission. He told me, ' You have to call them right now bc I did ask two days ago but I told them it would be within 2-3 weeks, but I couldnt wait!' Everyone was so happy

Re: QOTD 2 February 9
i had let him know years ago that he needed to, and he was always hesitant about it... he felt like it was just a power thing for my parents, where we see it as tradition. needless to say he asked my father over thanksgiving while they spent the day together. my dad was so excited, he was going to bring him to the jewelers! hahaha

Yes he asked my dad. I told him he had to. My dad loved it! My two sisters husband and Fiance asked before they proposed to.

Re: QOTD 2 February 9
In the beginning I told FH that he would need to ask my parents because they are traditional and he told me he already planned to do that.
So, one night (I don't know where I was), FH told my mom that when my dad got home from work he wanted to talk to them. My mom pretty much knew why. So then I think a few nights later when I was at work, he went to my parents and said that he bought me a ring. My mom told my dad 'I knew it!' and FH was like 'Well... is it ok?' lol... and my parents said of course. My dad said that we compliment each other and we're good for one another. FH asked them if they wanted to see the ring but my mom said no, she wanted to wait til it was on my finger. FH told his family and showed them my ring one night when they were all at his brother's house. And apparently when I went there after work, we were sitting on the couch and I put my hand on FHs lap. The ring and box was in his pants pocket and my hand was pretty much right on top of it and I didn't even know it.

Re: QOTD 2 February 9
Never officially asked. My mom knew it was going to happen any day, she knew he had the ring, it was more of a surprise to dad.

I think this is an issue with my mom and dad. He did not say anything... although we are not 'Official' yet in their eyes (no ring) I wonder if him not asking is the reason for that...
what makes something like this official?!? certainly not a ring! I know couples that have been wearing rings for YEARS and have no plans on getting married any time soon. hopefully your parents will realize that FH loves you and wants to marry you and, at this point, no matter what they think, it's happening!
Thank you pepper.... but my family is verry... well... ____ Place word here...
They do not equate engagement without the ring. He had gotten me one... and it was very large and I would never wear it (fbil made him get that one that all girls want them big)
