Did you and your FH/FW discuss engagment and rings prior to the engagment?

Joe and I had dicussed wanting to get engaged and what kind of ring I wanted. He knew what I liked and didn't like, but wanted me to be surprised so he would not let me try on any...

Though we had discussed engagment prior, I was completely surpised the day he proposed because his mom and sister kept telling me not to expect anything soon because he wasn't even saving... which was a lie...

yes...he showed me pictures and there was one ring that he showed me that i HATED...i bashed this ring like crazy...and that was the ring he already had purchased

Oh if you only knew. FH and I have been together for 9 years now, so for about the past year or so, engagement has been a huge topic of conversation. I actually drew him a picture of what I wanted my ring to look like

Not this past Christmas, but the one before (2007) I thought it was going to happen. Well it didn't and FH said I ruined Christmas that year. We got into a lot of arguments about how I was ready and he wasn't. Even though he did say he was saving.

Then a couple that we're close with got engaged. They had been in the same boat as us...dating for years. So that of course started a fight.

Then we decided to buy a house. He told me back in June that he was planning to do it but when we decided on buying a house instead, he said we couldn't afford both. He told me in June it would be 'soon.' I asked what soon was and he said, 'within the next year.' I nearly had a heart attack. I was like 'A YEAR IS NOT SOON!' So he told me 6 months. So I was anticipating it to happen sometime around this past Christmas.

Then he got laid off right before Thanksgiving. So at that point, I was like, ok it's not happening anytime soon now. To my surprise, he actually approached my mom about helping him pick out a ring the day after he got laid off

Come December 20, he finally proposed. So it was within my 6-month time frame, and I certainly wasn't expecting it b/c he didn't have a job.

ETA: the whole year that we had been arguing about it, his answer was always 'Don't you realize we're doing everything backwards???'

no i wanted to be surprised, i showed him a picture of a ring i liked but i didnt want to go shopping w/ him or anything. he also made it pretty obvious in finding out what he should get me by asking 'my friend wants to propose, what type of ring should he get his gf'

i wanted to get engaged before we moved in together, and since we were about to close on a house i knew it was coming but i kept asking him what was taking so long...my parents werent going to let me move in with him unless we were engaged! we already had the diamond(it was my grandfathers) so he just needed the settting....i wanted diamonds all the way around so it had to be a perfect fit...he sent me to the store to get measured and i fell in love with a completely different ring...the jeweler is a family friend so he told me to take the setting home!!!!! you can imagine fh surprise to come home from work and see me wearing the ring! he was pissed, so after he got the ring made he refused to give it me!!!!! he finally proposed and i am obsessed with my ring...i know so many people who dont like theirs, i just stare at mine all day long and he eventually got over it!!!!!!!

yes we were talking about it for a month. then on night we were in the mall and i said lets go looking at rings. i saw the one i like and two weeks later i had it on my finger.

YES!!! all the time, we always talked about our future.... as for the ring, i def let him know that i liked emerald cut and preferred a 3 stone ring, he designed it himself and told me that if he didnt like any of what i wanted he would have bought something else lolol good thing we agreed!!!!!

We would never talk about getting engaged or getting married, we would skip that whole part, we would always just talk about when we live together i know, we are odd

but after i went ring shopping with his sister (his idea) and picked out the ring, all i could think about was when am i getting it, he held it for a almost two months

I was extremely specific as to what I wanted but did end up being surprised by the actual proposal so that was nice :)

we talked about it and we went looking since i can be a bit picky. lol. but all the settings in the mall jewelery stores seems so blah to me. then i found a setting i loved online!! it was a hearts on fire setting (which IMO is over-priced, but GORGEOUS)...so i went to a store by work that carried it to make sure i liked it. and i did. i told FH and he was shocked at the price. so figured we were back to square one.

we were planning a trip to italy, so i figured maybe we would find something fantastic there.

little did i know FH was getting the ring designed for me. its based on the HOF setting i love, but it also has yellow-gold to it (im a fan of two-toned or tri-color pieces). the week before we went to italy he proposed. i was totally shocked!!!

its probably a good thing he did it then, otherwise we might have wasted half the sicily adventure looking at jewelery stores.

Yea we talked about it b/c we were leaving together and it always came up. We had a game, I would show him a group of rings and he had to pick out my favorite, he always knew what I wanted.
