No and, if, buts - or what's your age. Those family member we choose to invite, them and their families - the children will be invited. They are part of our family, they will join with us, and we - frankly - love them.
It probably helps that most of them will be under age 6. Only the Flowergirl and possibly 1 other will be between 6 and 12, and cost us half price.
At my RH, they are free under 6. So that probably helps us, but we knew family was the first and foremost important thing to FH and my 'family by choice' is just as important to me.

It seems like most of us, if not all of us, had to convince our FH no kids and not the other way around. Kinda weird.

I could not imagine not having kids at my wedding. It wasn't really a discussion for FH and I we just kinda both new we wanted our younger cousins at the wedding. However we didn't want crying babies. The youngest there will be 4 and half. I told all my family if you think you child will be fine then bring them if you don't want to don't.

Yeah we are having a 10 and 13 year old. They are pretty used to these things though being the youngest in the family and I can't see not having them. I am worried they will get a little crazy because it will be late and their mother tends to keep them out a little late. Now I'm worried about it hahah. I just see it as being an annoyance being their mother will have to either leave early with them or something... I don't even know. I haven't thought that much about it. Maybe they'll just fall asleep on the couches in the library

I personally don't believe in kids at a wedding. My MOH has 3 kids (1 on the way - so 4 kids by the time my wedding comes around), but I already told her that, as much as I love them, we aren't having ANY kids there. I just don't think children belong there. IMO, if you bring your kids to a wedding, one of two things will happen: 1. you will have fun but no one else will because you're not watching your children or 2. you will not have fun because you are too occupied by entertaining/watching them. I've seen it way too often when the kids run amuck. Sorry if it sounds harsh, but I don't want to be worried about tripping over a little kid or having them spill something on my dress!
OMG the last time there was a family party one of the kids spilled chocolate on my WHITE pants during the summer. Luckily it was on the bottom and not that noticeable and towards the end of the party but they were getting crazy and I was so annoyed. This is the only thing I'd be worried about with kids!! Stay away from my dress!!

We will be having neices and nephews and first cousins only! Have to keep it the same across both sides of the family. This topic can cause a HUGE issue with family.

We arent sure yet because I have many cousins with children who take it as an insult as they did with my engagement party but I really need to see my list and how it is panning out before thinking of whether to include them or not. My mother says to put the invite as mr and mrs and let them figure it out themselves but then there are going to be numerous phone calls. So i am not quite sure yet.

This was a problem for me at first b/c all my friends have children and one of my friends i know will make a big thing about her kids not being there ..but with me im only inviting 8 and older the reason for this is b/c i having two jr. BM and one has a brother who is younger and will be 8 and its wrong to leave him home but there are really only going to be 8 and teens there so NO YOUNG CHILDREN at all..
I just hope i dont have a problem where my other cousin on my dad side will understand that there kids are not invited ..i dont want to be mean but i really dont want young children running around ...to much ..but the FH said that same thing so at least we are on the same page on that one LOL

FH and I haven't decided, but I am sure this won't be the last time we discuss kids at weddings...
Great answers ladies! I'm enjoying reading each and everyone.

There will only be three children at my wedding: FH's nieces who will be 6 and 13 at the time of the wedding. They are going to be the flower girl and junior bridesmaid. My first cousin who will also be 13 at the time will be there.

Intially I didn't want kids at the wedding but my FH has two teenage daughters and a teenage nephew who are all in the wedding and his uncle has four daughters two who are our flower girls so we have to invite the other two, the flower girls and my nephew who i wanted to be our ring bearer but my sister thinks he is too old (he will be 9) will be the only kids and then we will have a teenage table, should be interesting...

No kids for us!!! We just went to a wedding that had a 1 1/2 year old just starting to walk and everyone was oohing and aahing over him and taking turns watching him! although they are cute, when that young they can be a distraction!! i have a cousin that is in my wedding party who has younger siblings that will be 12 and 14 at the time of our wedding, so we are going to invite them. but our RH offered us a discounted rate being they won't be consuming alcohol!

We decided we are not having anyone under the age of 18 at the party unless they are in the bridal party or a sibling of the ringbearer/flower girls. it's much easier that way and we might have a babysitter for those kids. It wil be the ringbearer, his little brother, one flower girl, her sister, other flower girl, and her 2 sisters.
Any suggestions on how I would tell everyone that under 18 are not invited?
