Happy Friday!Quick QOTD today, I'm pretty busy at work.
What has been the worst piece of advice anyone has given you since you started planning?
'Just go to the courthouse and save the money' EVERY divorced person I know has told me this. It angers me every time they say it. I can't imagine NOT having the wedding of my dreams.
So sorry for my unthought out question for today, but it's going to be a crazy day!

I've gotten the courthouse one too!The worst advice I've been given was another guy advising me not to marry FH over something petty.

FMIL told us to just go on a nice homeymoon instead of having a wedding. In hindsight I think she was just telling what (she thought) I wanted to hear but at the time I saw 50 shades of RED.

Hmmm. Worst piece of advice? I haven't really received anyBad advice but my sister will sometimes knock an idea because she thinks I should be cutting corners to save.. ( She is mosy likely saying that so my wedding won't trump hers) but UM it's not your business how much we choose to spend! I hate people commenting when they aren't paying.
You want to throw money towards our wedding ill be happy to consider what you have to say otherwise SHHH!

I am a divorced person, and I've given that advice, unfortunately. I'm of that school of thought. Yet I'm going to do the traditional wedding route this time.I'm a cheap *******.... sorry

'Just elope and take the money!' I hate that!Oh, and young married people being like
'Are you suuure?' or 'Don't do it!' Like what have you experienced in your 3 years of marriage that has made you doubt it? Go away!

I also get the 'DONT DO IT!' or the 'are you sure... its just a piece of paper!'I think thats really it. Honestly I know people say it jokingly... but I really want to say 'Just because YOUR marriage failed... doesn't mean mine will!'

The worst piece of advice is never get married lol I have gotten that from people who aren't married I'm like really? I also get the you have so much time why are you planning this far out, its called money and not doing everything 9-6 months out, this all coming from people who have never planned a wedding.

You are getting married young (I'm 22 turning 23 this year in june), don't rush, there's plenty of time. (Ppl I know)Why wait so long? You don't need a big wedding to show that your marriage will work. Just have a little gathering with fam and friends (ppl tht FH know)

Mine wasn't so much advice but I was told 'I'm shocked you're getting married so soon when you don't even have a full time job and you're having a really extravagant wedding' Really? BC I'm pretty sure my finances are none of your concern! Meanwhile I told FH we should just get married at the courthouse and save money, but he knows in the long run this is what we both want!

I've gotten all the classic advice like: 'Don't do it', 'just elope - weddings are too expensive', yadda yadda yadda (that's how it sounds to me). My dad suggested I have a backyard wedding with all my close friends/family, so we don't spend a lot of money (money that we won't be getting back he claims).I think people don't realize that it's not about they want, it's really what me and my FH want. And we don't want a small rustic backyard wedding - just not our style.

A friend of mine, who got married in October of last year, told me, 'Don't worry about your budget, there's the rest of your life to make the money back.' This came from a girl whose $40k wedding cost her $65k. She went $15k over budget!!!! I'm not broke, but definitely don't have an extra few thousand bucks lying around, and even if I did, I'd rather put it toward a house down payment or something else!! I'm doing my best to stick to my budget.

'Don't bother having a long engagement. It's not worth it.'Then I proceeded to tell her that FH and I will be engaged for 2 and a half years before we tie the knot because I need to finish school and it will give us more than enough time to plan a wedding. I could tell she felt really stupid afterwards for giving me that bad advice.
