So far no.. I've had a few close calls.. when we first got engaged, my FMIL insisted we have a band but FH put his foot down on that. My next major obstacle is going to be flowers.. My mother and FMIL have distinct visions of what I should have..

So far it hasn't been so bad. FMIL tried forcing us to make all of his cousins a part of the bridal party but I said no. Then she tried to force us to get married in a church but when we gave her our reasons she was ok with it.My mom is a little upset with the idea of us seeing each other before the ceremony for pictures but she'll get over it. I just love the idea of the first look pictures and I want to attend my cocktail hour and being we are getting married at the RH this is the best choice.

Great question! We're getting married at the RH because we're interfaith, but I really wanted to get married in church!

My FMIL wanted us to get married on a Saturday night, and since we are paying for most of it ourselves (my parents are helping as much as they can) we stuck by Friday night and so far so good!

Hello GOTW!!!!Awesome question. The only odd thing I have to deal with is that My dad refuses to sit at the same table as my mother even though they have been divorced and remarried over 30 years ago, I kid you not, he is still bitter. So i have to seat him and step mom with another table of honored guests instead of the parents table. Also, I would have much preferred to get married at my Manhatten church of St Francis instead of a smaller church on the island, but there is no way it would have been practical at all for my guest who will 90% be on Long and probably wouldn't come. I would shuttle them all in and back if we could afford it, but it would be a logistical nitemare.

everyone has been eerily quiet about our decisions (well except a little bit about how much $ things cost).... so i am expecting something to blow up in the next 6 months! LOL

No one is making us do anything since we are footing 100% of the bill. But i do feel pressure to keep it traditional and invite certain people who I would rather not spend 200 per plate bc I dont know them ( Fh's side)

Re: ***QOTD***3/25
since we are paying for almost the entire thing ourselves we haven't really had anyone making us do anything we don't want to. If they suggest something we don't like we just don't do it. Our parents did give us generous gifts when we got engaged that we used towards a few vendor payments here and there, so when they wanted to invite a few people we normally wouldn't have we decided to just do it to please them. If their lists got too crazy we would have said no but luckily it was just a few extra people.

Re: ***QOTD***3/25
Congrats GOTW! I don't think I have seen this question yet lol...So far things are pretty much how FH and I want them to be...THANK GOD!
However, I am still getting subtle vibes from my mom as to what she feels is 'traditional' and what I should and should not do...but they are little detail things...
Like my shoes should be white, not colored...
Like taking pictures with the photographer at the house before we leave...because FH and I are planning on taking pictures before our ceremony and it is a drive to our RH, I don't think it is possible...BUT my mom has redone the bathroom and has redecorated her bedroom LOL...
I don't know what my shower is yet but I know my mother likes traditional and has possibly shot down some theme ideas of my bridesmaids LOL
