What were your and FH's families reactions after he proposed????


First I need to preface this by saying: EVERYONE knew about it before hand for like two months. Friends and family. He had even shown them all the ring. I'm not sure how they kept it a secret, but they did a great job.

My mother started dragging me all over the house looking for the best lighting to see the ring in She helped him pick out the setting, but said she didn't want to see it again until it was on my hand. So she never saw the finished product until that night.

When I called my dad, his initial response was 'He did it already???? He's so stupid!!!!' I was like, ummmm why??? My dad told him to wait until Christmas to propose and he couldn't wait and did it the weekend before.

He called his parents right after and they were very excited. His mom tried calling me for three days after to congratulate me, but I'm barely ever home.

My sisters were very excited, his sister was ecstatic. I was on my cell phone with a friend when she called the house phone. She was talking to FH and then screamed 'Tell Laura to get off the phone so I can talk to her!!!!!!!!!!' His brother sent us each a facebook message

They both said 'it's about fricken time!!!!!'

Even all our aunts and uncles said that when we went to show them the ring.... It was about fricken time!!!!!!

Matt basically told everyone other than my friends and my mom....

My Dad and Step-mom were real excited. They knew bc he asked for my hand. My mom was in SHOCK! My friends were thrilled... there really was no bad reaction or some earthshattering response I can remember. Everyone knew it was going to happen sooner or later. It was definatly fun telling people though!

We were also calling from a Cruise **** to tell them at $8.00 a minute so we kept it short and sweet...

Well if he's not sure by now, he never will be. And he doesn't get another year to think about it. This next year is all about planning the wedding.....and we've got over $5K in deposits put down already, so there's no backing out now!

Nobody in the entire family knew. Fh is very good at keeping quiet & covert. I was under the impression that we were giong to live together forever ( 5 years prior to me getting the rock!)Neither one of us wants kids & our families are totaly cool with our situation.Once the cat was out of the bag (which came in out of left field) I was floored......said yes without hesitation. Once everyone found out......via an e-mail he drafted in advance.His family & mine went into party mode. He pushed the send button than said 'there now the whole family now knows we are getting married' the phone started ringing minuets later. I thank God every day that our families are so close & everyone gets along so well! They all could not be more supportive. I also think that both of our families love to party like it's spring break & this is a good excuse for all of them to get together & booze it up like prohabition just ended!

My family was excited...although they already knew since they came with us when I picked out the ring. FH's dad asked him if that's really what he wanted to do...not surprising...going to a funeral would be more fun for him than watching his son marry me.

My entire family was there, and I mean entire - Aunts, Uncles, cousins, the whole 9 yards. Everyone screamed and cried and cheered for joy! It was really cute

They had all seen the ring already....my parents were THRILLED! Apparently, FH said his parents were excited when he showed them the ring, but, Could have fooled me!!! They barely gave me a congratulations!!

well we were in vegas when it happened so i called my mom and of course she didn't sound excited (bc shes not that type of person) but at least FH's mom was excited!

Well his family, my immediate family, and my father's side was super excited!!

My grandma and those on my mom's side...not so much....they didn't want the family 'integrated'

My parents and his parents knew before I did and they were happy for us !!!! Even some of his closest friends and their parents knew because he had show them the ring.

FH asked my mom to find out my ring size. So mom knew about it way before I did. And since she did, she wasn't as surprised. My dad was surprised and soooo happy!!! He lives in Puerto Rico, so FH really doesn't communicate with my Dad unless i put FH on the phone with him.

I am pretty sure his parents knew before he proposed. They also didn't act so surprised!!

my family was excited that i finally got myself a good girl. my kids mother wasnt the greatest impression i could have given them

They were all real excited and happy. EVERYONE (friends, parents) knew for like a month before it happened except for me - even my best friend/MOH in California! FH definitely did an awesome job at suprising me!

everyone was happy. My family really loves Dave. Dave proposed on Xmas Day so everyone was super excited.

johns parents dont exactly get super excited over stuff but i think they like me...his mom calls me often and likes to bust my chops...i'll take that as a good sign

LOL this makes me laugh as I think about my sister's reaction.

Like some of you I was the only one who didn't know that it was happening. His family totally knew everything basically and actually waited for us at family friend's house post proposal. His mom cried and there was plenty of hugging and too much champagne.

My parents knew he was going to ask but FH had told them that he would do so near Xmas so they were surprised by the call but totally happy.

My sister on the other hand picked up the phone and started crying uncontrollably. It was the funniest thing we were both crying on the phone trying to get words out...even comical as at one point through my tears I was screaming 'WHAT ARE YOU SA...............YING' LOL

my parents were very happy. They love FH!! you would have thought my mom was the one getting engaged as happy as she was...

FH's parents knew when it was going to happen & they were very excited as well. FMIL told my mom that she couldnt pick a better girl for her sone

FFIL called me saying 'hey whats on your finger?' lol it was funnyy

my mom and the rest of my family was very excited. my SIL/MOH almost attacked me when I came home.

FH's family, not so much.

my mom and his parents knew about the ring before i got it. apparently my mom tried it on when FH showed it to her.
