~~~~QOTD 3/18/09~~~~

What were your and FH's families reactions after he proposed????

First I need to preface this by saying: EVERYONE knew about it before hand for like two months. Friends and family. He had even shown them all the ring. I'm not sure how they kept it a secret, but they did a great job.

My mother started dragging me all over the house looking for the best lighting to see the ring in She helped him pick out the setting, but said she didn't want to see it again until it was on my hand. So she never saw the finished product until that night.

When I called my dad, his initial response was 'He did it already???? He's so stupid!!!!' I was like, ummmm why??? My dad told him to wait until Christmas to propose and he couldn't wait and did it the weekend before.

He called his parents right after and they were very excited. His mom tried calling me for three days after to congratulate me, but I'm barely ever home.

My sisters were very excited, his sister was ecstatic. I was on my cell phone with a friend when she called the house phone. She was talking to FH and then screamed 'Tell Laura to get off the phone so I can talk to her!!!!!!!!!!' His brother sent us each a facebook message

haha my parents knew..which is a long story in and of itself..

his dad said he had guessed (we had gone to puerto rico for literally 48 hours)..his mom said oh s*it..it was actually really funny..

Everyone on both sides of the family knew, they had all seen the ring too. Actually FH went with my father to see my uncle (who is a jeweler) to buy the center stone.

Everyone was super excited and the wedding planning started a few hours later!

The only people that knew were my dad and mom (Because my dad told her - he has a big mouth). SO when I called them they weren't very surprised but obviously excited. My sister was sooo excited and all she kept talking about was how she couldn't wait to see the ring. Her first question was, Can I put it on facebook!?!??! The best reaction I got was from one of my friends, she started SCREAMING in the middle of the restaurant she was in and making a scene. It was pretty funny.

they all knew!!! and they all saw my ring!!! the jeweler had come to their house to show them it and finialize everything! they were just waiting for me to call screamin lolol they were really happy of course!

Shawn had apparently asked my parents for permission at lunch the day I graduated from college. My mother said, not until you (meaning shawn) go back to school...my father got up and walked away from the table apparently...

Well, he asked me anyway about 6 months later...I called my mother to tell her (she was visiting my grandparents at the time...) and lets just say the new's did not go over well with my family...No one ever asked to see my ring, never said congrats, nothing...My mom wouldnt speak to me for 3 months and dragged me to family therapy so i could get my head on straight and call off the engagement, because I had 'problems'

His family was excited but kept saying 'its about time, hurry up...'

Is your friend my best friend???? Because one of my best friends did the SAME thing, except she was outside of a bar! I actually had to take the phone away from my ear because she was screaming so loud!

everyone was excited! i kept getting phone call after phone call while we were having dinner as a celebration! everyone was happy and they kept asking me the date lol

Yep she is my best friend! hahaha I did the same thing because I wanted FH to hear how loud she was. I think she had a couple of drinks or something

the only person who knew before hand was FH's mom. she went with him when he purchased the ring.

everyone else (family & friends) were all very suprised. FH & i spoke about getting married only a couple of times in the past but it was never mentioned among family & friends. although we were together for 8 years when he proposed so i am sure people figured we would eventually get married.

everyone was/is happy for us & excited about our wedding.

His mom knew when it was going to happen, he had showed her the ring. He had asked my dad for permission in November 07 so my parents knew it was coming, just didnt know when.

When I called my parents, my mom said, 'did you get a ring?'

my parents knew. my mom went with us to look at rings. my dad was happy i think he was happy cuz fh did it the right way and took him to dinner and asked him. his parents really didn't show emotions.

my FH proposed to me in disney.. so when i got off the plane my mom had a wedding planner waiting for me when i got home lol

their initial reaction when i called them was 'we've been waiting all day for you to call!!!'

my FH's family was excited too.. and told me i could still back out lol

my parents knew that he was going to do it...but it was supposed to be on christmas also....he changed his mind last minute but called my dad FIRST to let him know, and he called my mom, so they all knew!!!

when it happened though, which was like at 5pm, i called my mom and she was so excited!! and then my dad who was like 'already?? i jus talked to him an hour ago!' but he was so happy...my aunt and cousin started to cry, my MOH was actually a B*tch that night...still pisses me off...his mom was so happy n excited, his sister called me to say 'welcome to our CRAZY family!' (she wasn't kidding lol)

and we were at FHs house after that so my parents were like 'we're coming over now! but we need to get nail polish remover!!' i was like W*T*F????

apparently my parents bought us a christmas ornament of our engagement with '12/25/08' on it...and since he did it on the 16th, she had to get acetone to remove the 25 and put in 16!! LOL

My mom knew but when FH went to ask her permission she started shaking lol.

She was happy but i didn't see her till the following day since we stayed overnight in the city.
I wanted to show her the ring in the car and she made me wait till we got home so she could look at it in better light lol.

His mom was happy... umm yeah

it was expected. we've been living together for liek 3 yrs so it was no big shock lol every1 was happy.

Oh BELIEVE ME....it was expected by our families too! We've been together for 9 years and living together for 2!!!! His family has been on his back about it for about the past year, so when it finally happened it was more of a relief than anything for everyone!!!
