Good morning! Hope everyone has a great weekend! It's going to be beautiful today!
Since we are now a year away I've been thinking about our engagement recently. Everyone always asks 'how did he propose?' but no one ever talks about the events leading up to the engagement. FH proposed on a Friday afternoon and went to my parents house the Tuesday before to ask my dads permission. He told me he was going to his parents house for something but ended up at mine. Then that Thursday was Thanksgiving so FH, my parents and brother spent the day hiding the fact that he was proposing the next day. Funny thing is we were actually joking about getting engaged and my dad kept saying that I couldn't be returned anymore. They all said they almost slipped a few times. That night FH and I got into a fight because a coworker of mine got engaged that day and I was upset it still hadn't happened for me. He slept on the couch that night knowing the next day I would feel like a jerk for getting mad at him. The morning we got engaged he told me he was going to the gym but was actually going with his cousin to pick up the ring. Then his cousin made up a story to come over because her girls (my flower girls) were a part of the engagement. I babysat the morning of our engagement and even the kids mother knew because FH asked her to stay at work a little longer to buy him time to get back with the ring. It makes me laugh to think about everything that went into the proposal and all the people who knew it was going to happen and had to keep it from me.
Did FH ask for your dad's or parents permission? Did a lot of people know about it before you? Any funny events or stories leading up to the engagement that you only found out about after the fact?

we were planning on going to the City before Christmas to see the tree as we do every year. That Friday before I was out with my friend and he was running errands( As I thought !!) I found out he went to my dads house with a dozen roses for my Stepmom and he showed the ring to both ( dad/stepmom) and he asked for permission, my dad choked as he was eating an orange LOL.. the next day he was supposed to drop me off my office for couple of hours and then pick my up and drive west but he didn't want to get up so I drove to my job alone, and of course I cursed him out cause he pissed me off.. I was disappointed I didn't think he bought a ring or he was going to propose, so I was n a bad mood all afternoon, LOL we got to the tree and there was a stage for the Kodak people to take pics of you in front of the tree, so he suggested for us to it and I agree... he gave one of the assistants there his cell phone to take pics I though it was so tacky ( I though he was being cheap) but the girl ended up taking a video of the whole thing, and right there he proposed! the whole crowd went nuts people were cheering it was amazing! I deff felt bad for cursing at him earlier in the day LOL LOL but now we have it on video and its a pretty funny story! when we got home that night he had two dozen roses for me, wine, he cut up cheese and crackers and he had gone to the mall the day before and got me a heart shaped jewelry box engraved with our engagement date, also, he got a custom Christmas ornament in the shape on a ring saying ' she said yes' with our names and the engagement date, My family knew I think that's about it, he wanted to keep as secret as possible so I wouldn't find out.

We went to see the Christmas tree on New Year's Day! I had absolutely no idea!!!! We went to Top of the Rock with 2 of our friends. It was the first time I have ever been there so it was exciting. We were walking around taking pictures and I had no clue. Finally my girlfriend offered to take a pic of the two of us not realizing she was recording the proposal. Everyone was in on it and i had absolutely no clue!!! He started to talk to me about why he brought me there and I kept looking at the camera not realizing the proposal was being recorded. It was the sweetest proposal. He then told me he spoke with my father a few days prior to ask for his blessing and a handful of my closest friends new. What a way to start the new year. I got a rock on Top of the Rock.

Yay! Love hearing engagement stories! Not many people knew it was going to happen beforehand.. His parents and his 3 best friends knew. He planned on proposing right after his graduation from the police academy at the Barclays center. My parents were thinking of missing the graduation because my dad was really sick. Apparently FH came over the day before and said NO you HAVE to be there, I want to ask your daughter to marry me. So my poor dad dragged himself to the Barclays Center but immediately after the ceremony, the ushered everyone outside and it was rainy. FH was cranky (I couldn't figure out why) but apparently it was because his plan was being messed up. Since it was raining and FH was cranky, I pretty much told him to change his attitude and I would see him at home since I wasn't standing in the rain with his cranky a**. So my dad went all the way there, sick as a dog and FH didn't even do it! It wasn't until later that day when we were all out to dinner celebrating his graduation that he finally did it! The best is that there is a picture of us right after his graduation, me and my smiling face, him and his cranky face, and in the picture you can see the square outline of the box in his jacket pocket :) little did I know..

FH and I had talked about getting engaged and everything. I told him that the only thing that really mattered to me was that he asked my mom and kind of my brother for permission. Since FH is in PA and very rarely sees my mom he had called her up on the phone to ask her permission. The day that we got engaged while I was on my way to our house in PA he called my mom. After he got off the phone with her my brother had heard the convo and asked my mom what that was about. My brother got a little upset that FH hadn't ask him if it was okay. So my brother texted the FH saying that it was OKAY with him to ask me to marry him. FH felt a little bad that he didn't ask my brother and didn't think my brother cared.
After we got engaged FH told me this and I started to cry bc my brother and I have always had a rocky relationship and it meant a lot to me that he actually cared.
Also at some point FH had talked to his dad and step mom about us getting engaged and they were very on board with it as well. The only thing FFIL said was that he thinks we should live together first to make sure that we can get along being around each other 24/7. FH told FFIL that I will be moving to PA before the wedding and we will be living together but I wanted a true sign of commitment before I leave my life in NY to move and FFIL understood where I was coming from and agreed with me in wanting that.

My FH knew that if he told anyone before hand, I would find out. We went out the Thursday before to the city and he made up a story that the restaurant we had reservations to had been double booked so we had to go somewhere else (really the ring just wasn't ready to be picked up yet...he had planned to pick it up that morning) so we went to a wine bar and went shopping at Columbus circle, I had an amazing time on our date and wished for a proposal so when the end of the night came and no ring, I simply thought well, Christmas is 2 weeks away so maybe he'll wait until after the new year. We agreed that the following Tuesday we would go see the tree, we always go the week before Christmas, and maybe the restaurant from the previous date will have a res available. When we got into NYC I immediately called my MOH and told her it was definitely not happening because he would've done it already. We headed to top of the rock and I've never been, I was so excited. We were at the top and I noticed something was odd when FH started walking away from me, it was cold!!! So I walked over to him he told me he wrote a note, pulled out an envelope and inside was the ring!!!! I never would've guessed that proposal but he knows if he kept the ring in the ring box I would have seen it. Lol afterwards we went to the sea grille, the original plan, where we celebrated our first anniversary.
