I visited more websites than you can possibly imagine, emailing a lot of them and looking for prices. Once I got a bunch of responses, I narrowed it down based on availability, price and whether I liked them or not, and then I only visited three.
I picked my venue, the waterview club, because I always wanted a beach wedding but all of the venues I was looking at in the hamptons were quoting me a minimum of $150 pp and I was able to get less than half of that after talking to the BM of the waterview club. So I was able to get almost exactly what I wanted as well as a Sunday evening wedding that was almost in my budget - I think we only had to splurge about $1000 in total for the venue which isn't too bad. I just loved it and I feel like they will really take care of me the day of my wedding :)

One, we thought it was pretty yet understated. Two, we liked the person who showed us around. Three - not alot of people have their weddings there. Four - mini grilled cheese and french fry apps!!!

Nothing really compared. It's very different. Totally different from what I pictured a wedding to be like. It was the first one we saw. Visited a lot of others afterwards and there was always something wrong with the other places.. too many weddings, too short of a time frame, parking lot was the first thing you'd see, chairs were yuck, ceiling, carpeting, cocktail hour, TICKS, bird poop on lawn, leaky ceilings, tacky. You name it we nit picked.
We felt most comfortable at our place and not stuffy. Nothing OTT. Clean. Wanted the entire day to ourselves with no rushing at all. Just a chill place and we found it!
Cons: cost, it's far!! I would've liked to get ready at home and pictures like that but that's just was not feasible with our venue distance. So it'll be like a mini destination wedding for us.
If I had to pick again, I'd do the same place. We love visiting out there to just chill, and get a free glasses of wine every time we go there since we're having our wedding there.

When we walked into our RH we knew.. we couldn't stop taking pictures it was gorgeous!! It is also still set up like a mansion so dinner and dancing are in separate rooms (for us, this was a HUGE plus!). Its totally us!

My FH did all the research, since we live in Jersey we needed a game plan to get it done in a few long days. He went through a bunch and crossed them off our list in advance based on size (big family!), and then we went to see about 10 of them in person. The Watermill was the only RH that we walked out of and I called my mom before we even made it into the car! My FH was like, 'I guess we don't have to go to the rest of the appointments I made for today....' The next day we went back with my parents and booked!

My moh/sister scheduled a whole bunch of appts. The woodlands was the first place we saw and when I walked in I had chills. We did see a bunch of other nice places but I couldn't get that mansion out of my head.

I had visited a ton of places before and kind of had one picked out but was super expensive. One morning on the radio I heard a commercial for JT. Never did I think to get married in long island. I was blown away by everything you get for the price and service.
