Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. I was lucky enough to have a 3-day weekend and it was fabulous!

QOTD 5/28/13: Living Together

Part 1.
For those still living separately, what aspect of moving in together are you most excited about? What are you nervous about? Is there anything you're scared of?

For those who already live together, what was your most difficult adjustment? What has been your favorite part?

Part 2.
Describe yours and FH's dream/goal home. Is it where you're living now? If not, when do you hope to move into your perfect or more permanent residence.

Part 1: FH and I still live separately. I'm most excited to become a housewife! I can't wait to come home and cook us dinner and do chores and take care of our home. I can't wait to fall asleep next to FH and not have to drive home after. I can't wait to get drunk together and have silly moments and have fun!

I'm most worried about adjusting to having less personal time, especially if we move into an apartment before finding a house. I'm very used to having my quiet, alone time to curl up with a book and I hope I can still find that time for myself living with FH.

I'm scared of having to kill bugs myself and not being able to yell for my dad to come kill them when FH is working late. I'm terrified of bugs!

Part 2: Our realistic hopes for our home right now would be a 3-bedroom ranch in a good school district that's been recently redone with a new kitchen and new bathrooms. We'd like to be in this house within the next 2 years.

My dream home (as of right now, haha) would be a large split in Syosset school district with a brand new white kitchen with either exposed white brick or a beautiful mosaic tile backsplash. I'd want a huge basement with room for a home theater, a big laundry room, and an exercise room. I'd want an enormous living room with high ceilings, and a huge dining room to accommodate our big families on holidays.

I'd love a huge backyard, a big patio with pavers and a brick bar/grill area and an inground pool set further back in the yard. I'd want a small poolhouse for guests to change and a bathroom. Dream big! :)

fh and I don't live together but he we split time staying together at each other parents house. We would love to have our own space but since we are trying to pay for the wedding we have very little money left over for rent after bills are paid and money to save is put away.

I am most excited about just setting up our home together and being with each other all the time. I hate sleeping alone.

Our dream home would be in a good school district Sayville, Connectquot, or Sachem, at least 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a decent size back yard. FH and I are willing to get a fixer up to make it the house we love.

Part 1: We do not live together, but I am a crazy decorator lol so I am SO excited to decorate our new home :) I am also excited to just have our own space for just the two of us because I have a huge family and can't wait to have some peace and quiet! I am not nervous or scared of anything, although I know it will be difficult to get ourselves adjusted to living together. Ex. FH does his laundry a certain way and gets mad if his shirts are hung up the wrong way lol, so it will be a challenge to adjust to each other's weird habits/obsessions

Part 2: Realistically, my dream home would be a 4-5 bedroom home in Garden City with a big eat-in kitchen with a center island, walk-in closets, and large master bathroom with heated tile floors :) We would love to live in Floral Park or New Hyde Park for a first home, and hopefully move-up to the Garden City area in about 10 years or so

So funny! Michael likes his shirts hung a certain way. for example they all need to face the same way. Me? I could care less. He insists that I do it his way. I told him if he wants me to do his wash, then deal with it. otherwise hang your own $hit up

1. We are living together and I don't think we had any major adjustments. We definitely had to re-route our daily lives a Little bit but nothing crazy. My favorite part has definitely been coming home to him, sharing a space, waking up next to each other and kissing each other goodnight every night

2. Our dream home would be a huge beautiful home on a huge piece of land that we don't have to pay for. Lol!
But our realistic dream home as of now is a condo or a villa within a five minute drive from the town we are in now since he is in the fire department, his family lives here, and my family lives ten min away. We are leaning towards a condo or villa to avoid having too much ownership responsibilities like maintenance or landscaping.

Edited bc I forgot part of the question

1. We do not yet live together, but I spend most of my time at his parents with him. I'm so excited to just be able to come home to him and have privacy. His room is in the basement, and his parents freely come down because there are other rooms down there. It's so frustrating, but I can't complain, it IS their home! I'm a little nervous about the fact that Joe is insanely neat. We both have extremely different habits, and I think we may clash a bit more when we live together. We've spent long times alone together on vacations, but it has been fine. ALSO, we get into tiffs a lot about what to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I think that might be a little issue. It sounds so ridiculous, but we are pretty indecisive when it comes to food, haha.

Our dream home has 3-4 bedrooms. Joe wants a 'mancave', his dad has one and it's something he is used to--so why not?! We will have a garage and a basement, but no pool. Neither of us like the pool, and the maintenance seems like a pain. Also, we need space in the backyard for his sulcata tortoise--this thing is going to live longer than us and is growing larger and larger every day! He want's to build an outdoor 'sanctuary' for Harvey, his tortoise :). We hope to be homeowners at least 2-3 months before we get married.

Lol that's funny fh also has a tortoise its an african spotted tortoise I think. Her name is speedy. And he also wants to build an outdoor area for her. He wants her to grow as big as she can. She lives in a small tank now.

Pt1
The most difficult adjustment was me realizing how OCD I am when it comes to cleanliness! I knew I liked things in a certain order and clean but moving in with FH, who is a slob, made me realize wooaaahh maybe I am a little over board and should relax. The best part is being around FH as much as we can. We do everything together & love it. I love waking up and going to sleep with him.

Pt2
We currently live in a 1 br apartment and we LOVE it but for our dream home we definitely have some wants. Central air, finished basement, big master bedroom/closets, wrap around porch, a huge kitchen. Our goal is once we get married to start looking right away for a house that would have 3 bedroom 1.5 bath minimum and a big kitchen. Hoping we can find that!

We have been living together for 2 years now, my most difficult adjustment was sharing my closet space LOL. My favorite part is sleeping & cuddling next to him every night, learning to be a housewife by learning to cook etc.

Our plans are to leave Astoria, as hard as it will be since I love being minutes away from the city & a few blocks away from all the cute cafes. We plan to buy a house in LI, my FH is all about having a big backyard for BBQ's, football and baseball games with friends & family. If all goes well we hope to start looking and hopefully buying a house 1 year after the wedding.

FH moved in with me about a year and a half ago, because I had the bigger apartment (he had a small 1 bedroom in the city). Let me tell you, it was NOT an easy adjustment for me. I was used to having the place to myself and all of a sudden it was being invaded! I say this not to scare anyone, but to know that if it is a rough adjustment, its ok, you're not a terrible person and it does get better. Now I can't imagine living without FH and I'm so glad I'll never have to!

We definitely do not live in our dream home! We have a 2 bedroom apt and we need more space and a quieter neighborhood. I can't wait to buy a house (4 bedrooms, 2+ baths, nice yard), but I think moving will be bittersweet...for all I complain about this place, it was my first apartment and I worked really hard to have the money to do it all on my own and live by myself. And, FH proposed in the kitchen, so there's that too!

1: FH and I have been long distance since we started and will be until the day after we get married. He lives two states away so we have to fly to see each other. What I'm most looking forward to is being able to spend a second of my day traveling to see him versus about six hours. What I'm most nervous about is my ability to adjust to the drastic change of location- he lives in Ohio and, well, this is Long Island which leads to...
2: Our dream home is a farm. I know it's very different from Nassau (where I live now) but the idea of the family coming together on a farm sounds very appealing to me. It would be over in Ohio since that's where FH lives now and we both find it a lot more peaceful than Long Island.
