Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. I was lucky enough to have a 3-day weekend and it was fabulous!
QOTD 5/28/13: Living Together
Part 1. For those still living separately, what aspect of moving in together are you most excited about? What are you nervous about? Is there anything you're scared of?
For those who already live together, what was your most difficult adjustment? What has been your favorite part?
Part 2. Describe yours and FH's dream/goal home. Is it where you're living now? If not, when do you hope to move into your perfect or more permanent residence.
Part 1: FH and I still live separately. I'm most excited to become a housewife! I can't wait to come home and cook us dinner and do chores and take care of our home. I can't wait to fall asleep next to FH and not have to drive home after. I can't wait to get drunk together and have silly moments and have fun!
I'm most worried about adjusting to having less personal time, especially if we move into an apartment before finding a house. I'm very used to having my quiet, alone time to curl up with a book and I hope I can still find that time for myself living with FH.
I'm scared of having to kill bugs myself and not being able to yell for my dad to come kill them when FH is working late. I'm terrified of bugs!
Part 2: Our realistic hopes for our home right now would be a 3-bedroom ranch in a good school district that's been recently redone with a new kitchen and new bathrooms. We'd like to be in this house within the next 2 years.
My dream home (as of right now, haha) would be a large split in Syosset school district with a brand new white kitchen with either exposed white brick or a beautiful mosaic tile backsplash. I'd want a huge basement with room for a home theater, a big laundry room, and an exercise room. I'd want an enormous living room with high ceilings, and a huge dining room to accommodate our big families on holidays.
I'd love a huge backyard, a big patio with pavers and a brick bar/grill area and an inground pool set further back in the yard. I'd want a small poolhouse for guests to change and a bathroom. Dream big! :)

1. I can't wait to live with FH and see him everyday. That is what I am looking forward to the most. Seeing him everyday. I'm terrified about being able to pay all our bills or if something should happen we would lose our place.

FH and I bought a house about 4.5 years ago. There have been some huge adjustment periods. As much as I love him, he's a slob. I get anxiety if things aren't neat and in order. We're STILL trying to figure that all out. Also, I have my own DVR in the office and he has his in the living room so we spend too much time separated (which most of the time is ok) but it's gotten routine and we realize we need to fix that!
This is our dream home (well mine at least, FH would like something bigger) We have 4 bedrooms, one bath, eat in kitchen, living room with fireplace and a huge dining room. Our backyard is completely paved with paving stones and we have a pretty kick *** in-ground pool (which just happened to be the selling point for us!) Eventually we'll need to do some updating to the house but it's our home and that's truly the only thing that matters!

Part 1. We are living together for about 6 months, in fact I moved in less then 2 weeks before we got engaged. I wanted to wait to live together but Sandy didn't let me wait too long unfortunately, but hey we got engaged right away and it's all working out now!
Part 2. Our dream home would be anything that's all outs! We have a teeny tiny apartment now so just having a full kitchen, own backyard, and room to grow a family would be great! I don't mind hard work so we would probably buy a big house on a lot of property and slowly fix it up to exactly how we want it.

Fh and I are living seperately for about another month or so. I'm looking forward to having privacy. At my house my mother is constantly in my room. And at his we are usually in the basement but his parents will just walk down there and the door doesn't lock. I also can't wait to sleep together every night. I don't sleep well when fh isn't here.
We will be moving into his grandparents house. His father grew up there and I love the idea of raising our children where their grandfather grew up. The house needs some upgrades since it looks exactly as it did when they moved in, in 1957 but I love it.

FH and I are currently living together and the adjustment was easy... we are currently living with his parents and we are both super excited to get a place of our own for more privacy and freedom throughout the entire house!
We would love to buy his parents house right now, but unfortunately it is the wrong time for us and the right time for them to sell, so it looks like we are missing out. We don't really want to start with a 'starter home' and then move again after fixing that one up... we'd rather just buy the house with the bedrooms for our future children because truth is, they'll be here before we know it!
For those who already live together, what was your most difficult adjustment? What has been your favorite part?[
The most difficult adjustment was (and is) still getting used to dealing with his parents. Right now we live in his parents basement which is almost a full apartment. It has a separate bedroom, living room, bathroom... everything but a kitchen. His parents also use him for a lot of things around the house so sometimes its hard to share him. BUT then I remember we're living together rent free and it could be a lot worse.
My favorite part... getting to wake up next to him every. single. morning. Also... our little routines we have. Like... he'll shower first then I'll shower and while I'm showering he'll start my coffee.
Part 2. Describe yours and FH's dream/goal home. Is it where you're living now? If not, when do you hope to move into your perfect or more permanent residence.
FH actually showed me where he wants to start a family yesterday. He would like to move out east a little bit... like the longwood school district so we would live in like.. rocky point or middle island. FH wants to build me a home made out of renewable resources like shipping containers and make it totally green-- solar powered and everything. If we can't make that happen.. we want to buy a real fixer-upper so we can make it totally our own. FH also just wants an excuse to buy tools.

We bought a house 3 years ago next month. To be honest, I didn't really feel like there was too much to adjust to. I'm the messy one so he had to adjust to me lol. One bad habit I had to break him of was he had this insane tendency to leave drawers and cabinets open after he got what he needed. It was SO annoying. I would come home from work and it would look like we had been robbed.
We've been remodeling the house so its turning into our dream home. It has 4 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms so for now we've been lucky enough to have separate bathrooms. We've redone our entire first floor except for the sunroom and I am in love with our new kitchen. Next up is the master bedroom and the new siding!

FH and I live together now in our home that we purchased in November 2011. We completely remodeled the entire thing. My married friends kept telling me 'things will change, it's hard,' etc. but I knew what we were getting into and its been fine! Just more responsibilities. I also wanted to wait until marriage to live together (my friends were also warning me, he will get comfortable, dont do it!) ut we moved in before we got engaged and got engaged 4 months later. Everyone knows their relationship the best!
Right now our home has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms so I think we can stay here a long time.

1. FH and I have been living together for a year now, in a nice two-bedroom apartment. He had never had a roommate in his life, so initially it was difficult for him to adjust to me being there all the time. I had no problems adjusting, FH is neat, organized, and we both spend a lot of time together while giving each other space when needed (alone time was the one thing I was worried about not having too, but we have developed a perfect routine where we each get to do our things for a while each day), which works out perfect.
2. I am still in grad school and will (hopefully) graduate in 2-3 years. Depending on where I get my permanent job, we might have to move. But we would like a house in the suburbs, in a good school district, with a nice yard and a pool.

1. My FH and I do not live together so I'm most looking forward to being a wife and coming home and cooking him dinner and just curling up on the couch and be in pjs and wake up next to him.
2. My dream home would be in Nassau where my parents and his parents are because when we have kids it will easier to drop them off for babysitting, I would love an updated kitchen with an island and a big backyard to entertain and a nice dining room to host holidays.
1) I have never been happier than when I started living with FH. I love getting to see him and spend time with him every single day. Before we moved in, sometimes we'd both be busy and not talk much for a couple of days or even a week. Now we can always check in with each other.
That said, it wasn't 'nothing' to adjust to living together. We lived very different lifestyles apart so we had to find compromises together. He's the clean, organized one and I'm more messy (not BAD, just more laid-back). When we fight, we can't just hang up the phone and ignore each other until we cool off. We both had to change our diets too - I changed mine drastically to be much healthier (obviously a good thing) and he rarely eats red meat now because I won't eat it.
2) I want to stay in the area we're in now. (Actually, I want to leave Long Island completely, but I know that's not possible, so I do like the town we're in currently.) I'd like to have a pool and a wraparound porch and a decent amount of property. It'd be nice to be able to move into a house shortly after the wedding!

1) FH and I aren't living together yet. Ideally we'll be able to start looking for places to rent by the end of the summer, but we really need the job market to turn around and be more financially stable before we take that step. I'm looking forward to seeing FH everyday and not having to plan ahead when I want to see him. It gets stressful planning outfits to bring the next day if I have to go to work or making sure I brought everything I needed for class. Our schedules get so busy that I'm looking forward to that down time at the end of everyday with him.
I'm most worried about my 'alone time'. I get so frustrated when someone starts telling me things that need to get done the second I walk through the door. Hopefully I'll get home before FH and I won't have to worry about that lol
2) Our dream home is likely somewhere that's not on Long Island. The cost of living is so high here! It would ideally be 3-4 bedrooms, 2 baths, a decent size updated kitchen and a BIG backyard. FH and I love being outside BBQ and entertaining plus we want dogs. I think we either have to move south or way out east on Long Island. We'll see.

OK so currently FH & I do not live together. We actually will be moving into an apartment together Aug 1st :) It is an apartment upstairs from my uncle that he is completely renovating for us. It is only a 1 bedroom so it will be too small to live there once we decide to have babies but it will be perfect for the next two years. I am most excited to come home from work to him every day, cook, be a housewife & to wake up together every morning. I am not scared of anything because FH & I spend a lot of time/nights together. The only thing I am not looking forward to is FH gets up at 5:15 every morning & that will take some getting used to
FH & I are still unsure of where we will be living. No one knows what the future holds. Ideally I'd like to stay in nassau-in or around massapequa. We are so far away from buying a house (we are hoping to buy one in 2 years) that most of our 'visions' are really 'dreams' lol

FH have been living together for the past 3 years. We moved in with each other after 6 months of dating and it was the best decision we ever made!
Our dream home would be an old victorian house with LOTS of quirky character. I need an updated kitchen though, b/c I love to entertain.

I moved into FH's apartment about a year and a half ago.. I thought the adjustment was going to be alot worse than it was seeing as he had been living there alone for like 18 years, but surpisingly has not been too bad. It is a studio so privacy is limited I look forward to my Saturdays when he works and he looks forward to Mondays when I work.. We do have a blast together luckily we are eachother pea in this small pod.The one thing I know he still is having a hard time with is all the hair that fall out of my head.. HE is constantly finding a piece everywhere.. LOL..
We have an apratment across the street from teh beach and his job and his daughter are close so we are not changing neightborhoods.. We are going to put in for a bigger apartment. We need a 2 bedroom and I need a bigger kitchen but other than that I cannot complain :) I have adjusted very well to beach life adn can not picture living any where else anymore.

Part 1: We do not live together, but I am a crazy decorator lol so I am SO excited to decorate our new home :) I am also excited to just have our own space for just the two of us because I have a huge family and can't wait to have some peace and quiet! I am not nervous or scared of anything, although I know it will be difficult to get ourselves adjusted to living together. Ex. FH does his laundry a certain way and gets mad if his shirts are hung up the wrong way lol, so it will be a challenge to adjust to each other's weird habits/obsessions
Part 2: Realistically, my dream home would be a 4-5 bedroom home in Garden City with a big eat-in kitchen with a center island, walk-in closets, and large master bathroom with heated tile floors :) We would love to live in Floral Park or New Hyde Park for a first home, and hopefully move-up to the Garden City area in about 10 years or so
