QOTD

Original post by Espo22

Something came up last night and I was curious how everyone else felt.

Ok i was flipping through the channels and for 5 mins saw that Tyra had the topic teen pregnancy. One girl was 13 years old and pregnant and spoke about how she found out. Her 13 year old friend has been trying to get pregnant so she bought the home test and told her friend to just try it and she was pregnant. Her sister has been raising her, and she said that she wished she put her on birth control once she got her at the age of 12. Dh turns around and says like she was supposed to know to do that with a 12 year old but '14 maybe to start?' once he said that i thought 'i dont know about that' i feel like you're giving your kid permission by taking them to get birth control. Yes I understand the whole BUT they will do it regardless. I agree with sex ed in school and giving out condoms. But if i thought my teenage kid might be having sex. I dont think my first response would be to get them on birth control. I would try maybe locking them up in their room forever lol jk, but seriously i would try other things first. Maybe have them talk to teenage pregnant moms and sharing their experience with them. Go somewhere that a person with AIDS is publically speaking to educate people about this and really get it into their heads.

Its not one of those issues where i am strong for or strongly against, so i can see both sides but dont think i could do it.

But would you put your 13 or 14 year old daughter on BC?

OMG Chris and I were just talking about that!!! I wore BAGGYYYYY jeans and over-sized Polo sweaters with Jordans, Timbs, whatever. But it was strictly BOY gear! And girls nowadays have a contest on whos butt crack is sticking out more. I cant believe how much the style changed. And even when I started wearing tighter jeans they were all really high-waisted!! Remember that?? I used to love my CK Jeans and when I look at pics now they came up to my belly button

i know its funny, my parents used to beg me to wear a dress or skirt or something form fitting at least so i can dress like a girl. I remember even for assembly when girls had to wear white shirts with black skirts, i would wear black jeans but one time i decided to wear a skirt and OMG the reaction i got was so uncomfortable. I remember walking into the auditorium and everybody saying 'OMG she has legs' and omg wow shes not dressed like a guy i didnt wear a skirt to assembly again haha but yeah i did go overboard, my earrings were down to my shoulders, had the HUGE jeans, timbs, nautica jackets, triple down big coats, carhartt jackets lol. Then yeah wearing polo sweaters were huge, tommy hilfiger and nautica sweaters.

it was so different than it is now

OMG i dressed like that too - like thug life W-T-F was i thinking??? except i used to wear baggy pants and then belly shirts - like aaliyah did

I DID THAT TOO!!! Back when I had no fat on my belly.

I need to find some pics too! We can start a new thread! Post pics of the style back when we were young or something like that.

you have no idea how bad i want pics of me back then. I swear its like my mom really got rid of all my thug life pics i have boxes and boxes of pics, but not many from that age lol. I mean we didnt have digi cams like now so we all used to buy the disposable cameras back then when hanging out with friends so not as many pics as we have now but still. I know my MOH has some good pics, she kept her pics nicely in albums and in order. I am gonna get some though somehow

also bandanas were HUGE...i always wore a ponytail and with a bandana wrapped around it haha

good qotd.

i would be opposed to giving my daughter birth control at any age under 16 or so. only because i think she may believe 'i have a license, might as well drive' so to speak.
now, if she approached me for it at one of these ages i found inappropriate for sexual activity, i'd do my best to scare her straight (O yeah, i'd do that), but if i felt she would anyway i might see myself forced to do so.

ok, these girls need to have a mom like I had and they DEF. WOULDN'T be pregnant. My parents are FOB's (Fresh off the boat) so they are old school and I thank god that I grew up in that house.

1. No 12 year old should be having sex. PERIOD. now that im married and know how involved sex is emotionally and physically its def. not for 12 year olds or teenagers in general for that matter (thats my opinion)

2. birth control @ 12 is ridiculous, seriously. you are ENABELING YOU CHILD by doing this and thats the truth. You are making it easier for your child to have sex.

I love America and everything but im sorry this is a crazzy country, this sh*t would not be happening where my parents came from.

well in other countries they say kids are having just as much sex but less pregnancy rate.

But thats why i wont give my kid BC. I wont say ok here i give you permission bc thats what i feel i'll be doing and thats bc i know how a teenager thinks.

Re: QOTD

that's actually kind of a sore subject between me & FH because he & I were raised very different from one another. My parents brought me up in the church and still to this day I carry the Christian morals I learned as an adolescent, to not have sex until you're married. I don't care that 'times have changed' and I know that this seems so old fashioned now-a-days, but I don't personally believe that what's written in Bible just changes. So for ME, I would never allow my child to use Birth Control. I mean, yeah if they were older and I knew they were sleeping with their boyfriend/girlfriend, then (while being extremely disappointed in them) I'd definitely get them on something. But no, I'd never just do it. That's definitely a way of giving the 'okay'. And it's not okay.

My FH & I were actually talking a little about this kinda thing not too long ago. He had just given his 18 yr old cousin a box of condoms because he wanted him to be 'prepared' just in case. God forbid he gets some girl pregnant. I totally understand that. But it's gonna be different with our kids. I am NOT giving my son 'permission' to go out & have sex with whoever he feels like. I'm gonna hope that we raised him right... but i guess I can't really say what i'd do until i'm in the situation.

you definitely should never change your views and raise your kids with the same values as you believe.

At first i thought ok i wont give my kid BC, and i thought others would disagree with me saying its not responsible bc you cant stop them. But its not that I dont want to protect my kid, but i also wont give my kid permission. I know ive seen parents who didnt want their kid to have sex but accepted the fact and these kids felt it was ok for them. I respect someones decision to give their kid BC but glad to see im not the only one who felt i wouldn't give it to my kid, i thought i was going to be the only one. My decision is different than yours though, i grew up too quickly and regret it and wish i didnt. I will be VERY honest with my kids and talk to them about my experiences and how it effected me and hopefully they will learn from my mistakes.

That's kinda my FHs point of view. He definitely wasn't raised anywhere near the way I was. He respects me sooo much though and wants to raise our children the way i was. So i'm not too worried about it. But he still does make comments every now and then about how it would just be responsible to prevent a pregnancy or STD or something,(that is, if they are going to be doing it anyway). But I'm very firm on what i believe, because i definitely agree with what you said - how it's basically giving them permission. I KNOW that if my mom had sat me down and handed me a box of birth control, yeah I'd be having sex!! Because as a kid (even a teenager) I kinda trusted my parents. So i would of assumed it was okay then, even if they said it wasn't. Actions speak louder than words. (Either that or I would have been insulted that they didn't trust me and believed I was sleeping around anyway). Either way - no good would have come from that!!

Yeah I am. It's not something i'd run around screaming into the streets, but I'm proud of it nonetheless. Mainly because it's not as though i've just never been given the opportunity, b/c I've def been in those situations (esp once i started dating FH) It was just a personal choice I stuck with. One that he has honored. It made us love & respect one another even more.
