with the holiday weekend approaching, I keep thinking about my childhood. I guess summer does that to me. Long days playing w my friends, sleep away camp for horsemanship and camping w my parents.
So, I know lots of the brides here want kids and some already have some :)
What was your favorite childhood SUMMER memory?
And is there anything from your childhood that you'd like to give your kids?
I have a lot of fabulous memories as a kid. I'm an only child and my Mom was a teacher so we took 2 weeks every summer to go away camping.
I think my favorite summer memory was when I was about 10 and we went camping in the Shenandoah national park. I was horse crazy and we went horseback riding in the most gorgeous place ever. we camped near a stream and hiked to see waterfalls and saw deer and fox and bears! That place is still my favorite place ever.
I'd love to give my kids my love of animals, science and nature. I was always taking a nature class or science class as a kid. I'd love to enroll them in classes at the zoo or something.

ok so I just asked my mom about summers as a kid etc...and THIS is what she came up with!
'when you were 2, your dad took you to a car wash. you locked him out of the car and went through the car wash by yourself. when the car was done...you wouldn't open the door and ate an entire bottle of vitamins including the stay fresh thing in the bottle. Your father was fuming and you laughed at him and still refused to open the door. Someone used a slim jim to open the door and we called poison control. you were such a brat!'
hmmm..I think we have different memories of MY childhood! lol

ahhhhhh every summer was great, as soon as school was done, we would pack up and head to the Dominican Republic for 2 months... (my other cousins did the same) so we would jsut want to stay at our grandmother house in the country, running around barefoot, riding donkeys, and doing crazy stuff with all my cousins..
Being a working parent, i probably wont be able to take them for 2 months, but i will still take my children to the DR every summer and visit their grandparents, my parents dont live out int he country, but thankfully, my grandmothers house is still there and extended relatives, so my kids will get to see where i spent my childhood and where my dad grew up....

since I was about 9 years old, my family and I would drive down to Miami every summer and just veg out by the beach. you couldn't get me out of the ocean if you tried! then we would do something fun for dinner. i wish we could still do that.

I just remember CONSTANTLY being outside with my friends. I had some woods right next to my house and we would build the most ridiculous forts in there and play everyday until it got dark
I just want my kids to have the freedom to play in the neighborhood like I did, and I want them to play outside. Not that there is anything wrong with watching TV once in awhile, but I don't EVER remember watching much tv (except Saturday mornings of course!) so, I want that to be a rainy day thing, not an everyday thing.

being outside till 9 playing games with all the neighborhood kids, going to the beach with my friends when we were old enough to take the ferry over to FI. I would run from summer school to the ferry. hanging around someones pool. The daily beach trips we used to take with mom and her friends. Also trips to spend a month with my grandparents in FL what I would give to have another summer with grandpa
I want my kids to have the same summer experiences of the beach, neighborhood fun and trips with their friends in the summer maybe a summer vacation now and again.

I love the 4th of July. I have the best memories of childhood bbqs and water balloon fights. Since my birthday is the 5th of July and my cousin's birthday is the same day we'd always have Carvel Ice Cream cakes.
