I know some people who have had this problem and I thought it would be an interesting question…..
Would you still marry FH if your family did not approve of him, for some reason or another?
I think I would but it would put a serious strain on my relationship with my family, esp. since we are all super close but I love him too much not to marry him.

Yes I would. I def agree on the strain on the relationship with the family. I just wouldnt want to give up on something so great and that makes me so happy b/c of other peoples opinions. They would have to understand

I would, and I am. My mom doesn't think FH is the best for me, and it took a while for her to even be nice to him, but I'm hoping things will get better as it gets closer to the wedding and she sees how much in love we are. She has definitely improved a lot as far as her attitude towards him, but only after much arguing and fighting. I always look at people who have mothers and FHs that get along so well, and I always wish I could have something like that. But I know that marrying FH, despite what she thinks, is the right thing and is what I want to do.

I'm stuck on the motto that this is MY life I'm living, not anyone elses. I would def. still marry him if anyone in my family had a problem with him. I know that over time they would learn to love him. But, thank god that there is nothing NOT to love about him in reality!

Yes, although i certainly wouldnt be happy about it. Im very very very close with my family. And their approval means so much.I would probably end up working overtime to make them like him! lol I know in the end my family would accept him not just for my feelings but because they love me & trust my judgement. Which makes this situation even hard to fathom to begin with. lol

I would still marrying him assuming the reason my mom does not approve is not valid in my mind. If he did something terrible to disrespect her or my family, that might be a different story... Luckily, my family absolutely adores FH so that's one less thing I have to worry about!

thats a hard one! i love fh with all my heart but it would kill me if my parents didn't approve. they are the most important people in my life. I think though that my love for FH would make me decide over him

Re: QOTD 9/4/08
I would, so long as the reason why they didn't like them wasn't valid (i.e. he actually treated me with disrespect, them with disrespect, wasn't stable and/or had law troubles, etc.)
At first my mom was very leery of FH, because he was my first boyfriend, and she's very overprotective. She's also very shallow, and until she got to know him, didn't like him for me because he's shorter than me! Now I think she likes him more than me!

I still would've. If it was a serious reason they didn't like him such as verbally abusive or anything like that then probably would hear them out. Otherwise if there is no good reason then i wouldn't even bother to listen.
Luckily they LOVE DH. And the fact that my dad loves DH is HUGE. I never thought he would even like anybody i was with, he never had before. So im glad they hit it off from the beginning lol

Well it's not my family that doesn't approve but his family that doesn't approve of me. He is Indian and I'm not. That is the only reason. He dad didn't even meet me until we were engaged. They know they can't stop him from making his own choice, but it is hard. I seem to be hurt more than my FH. He doesn't have a good relationship with his dad because he doesn't do things the old traditional way. It makes it hard yes, but it just shows how much he loves me that he is willing to deal with it all. ~~Rach

---Forget to say---My family absolutely loves my FH which really helps. He already calls my mom mom. It's so cute. My sisters are so happy to have a brother they love.

Re: QOTD 9/4/08
no I probably wouldnt. I dont think I could love or be happy with someone that my family couldnt get along with. I was in a relationship before and my family just hated the guy because well he wasnt the most respectful guy and he didnt like them and it was just hell. We were always fighting. I couldnt spend the rest of my life like that. I have such a small family that if we were to not speak I would just want to die. We are so close. They love my FH like a son and my dad does all sorts of things with him and they both just love it and get along so well.

i think it would depend on why they didnt approve...if it was something stupid like their job then id forget about that..but if they ddint like the way he treated me..well then id have to assess what they see...

Yes I would. You have to do what makes you happy and you surely cant please everyone all the time. I think we all have learned that from wedding planning,
edited to say cant instead of can

I would and I don't even think my parents would make an issue of it. I was in a serious relationship in the past that was close to getting to the marriage point. My parents did not think he was the right person but never once said anything to me about it.

My family does not approve of him and they have definitely put a strain on our relationship over the years. If I could go back in time, I would have told my family to go fly a kite and leave me alone. With that said, I am still marrying him. I love him and he makes me happy. In the end that's all that matters.
