QOTD: Friday, February 15, 2008

Hello hunnies! How was everyone's night last night? TGIF!!!! I hope you're all looking forward to the weekend!

I hope not to open old wounds or make anyone sad with today's question but rather to honor and remember, amongst each other, those who are not present in our lives.

Who do you and/or FH wish could celebrate your wedding day with you but is no longer alive? How would that person feel about the wedding if he or she were still alive? How will you honor that person at your wedding?

*******************************************************
ETA: I just wanted to thank you all for answering so openly and honestly. I know this probably wasn't an easy question to answer. I think it's wonderful to share these things and celebrate these special individuals in an open and caring environment.

Re: QOTD: Friday, February 15, 2008

My grandfather, to whom I was VERY close, died on October 19, 2007. He died 7 months after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, which spread to the bones. Although he wasn’t a teacher, he taught me some of life’s greatest lessons and on the day of my wedding he’s the one thing that will be missing. If he were here, he’d be the happiest man alive to see us getting married. I plan on honoring him with a memory charm on my bouquet and leaving an empty seat for him.

I think FH would say his grandmother. She passed away less than a year ago and he was very close to her.

Re: QOTD: Friday, February 15, 2008

Well my dad passed when I was 15 and so what we're going to do is probably an upbeat song to remember him with photos. I dont want anything too sad.

Also one of my best friends died last year, so in the program we will honor him.

And if my dad was still alive, he'd be the one walking me down the aisle, but I think my uncle might. We'll see.

FH's father....he passed away when he was 10. We are dedicating our wedding ceremony to him and we're putting a little blurb in the programs. Also my uncle, we are doing the same thing for him.

Re: QOTD: Friday, February 15, 2008

My aunt passed away about 6 years ago from a heart attack. She was 50 years old and it was soooo sudden. I was very very close to her. She was my second mother. When my mother said no she said yes. She was the most amazing, funny, caring, warmhearted person u would ever meet. FH NEVER got to meet her, i met him almost one year after her death.. in a way i feel like she gave me a gift by sending him to me.. They would have loved each other. They both have the same personality. I'm still not over the death of my aunt. I dont know how to get over it. I had other freinds and familt pass away and i have moved on always missing them. But i cant move on with her, i miss her deeply. She would be so happy for james and i. At the wedding she would cry and laugh and dance her *** off. To honor her at the wedding i'm lighting a candle for her and putting a picture in my bouqet. Also, my cousin (her son). Just got engaged and he is going to be getting married in october of 09. So will miss both but will be in ur hearts!

Re: QOTD: Friday, February 15, 2008

Fortunately not many people in our families have passed yet, but I would have to say FH's grandfather, he died a couple of years ago and he had dimentia. So I would love to have a healthy version of his grandfather there. Both of mine died before I was born, so FH's grandfather's are the closet thing I have.

Aww, man- I am getting TEARY! Def my Grandma and his Grandparents. I was my Grandma's favorite. She never had the pleasure of meeting FH- she died the 2 day FH and I were dating (The day of my Sister's wedding- that was the WORST!) I know she would have loved to see me get married. FH's Grandparents too. I heard so much about them and wished I did get to meet them.

My grandmother passed away a year ago. She was 94 but I still feel like she is out of my life way too soon. I would love for her to be sitting in the first pew of the church when I walk down the aisle. The same church that we would walk to every sunday, and where she watched me get my first communion and confirmation. I know she will be there in spirit.

I miss you mummygran (thats was what I called her)

our dads they both died when we were little. we'll probably have a memorial area with big framed pictures and/or do a poetry reading @ the ceremony.

Re: QOTD: Friday, February 15, 2008

i wish that my dad could see us get married. he passed away on 10/18/07 and was very close to FH. we showed him my engagement ring (before i got it) while he was in the hospital, so that was nice. and anytime we go to look at the RH we really want, we go to the cemetary so he can be there with us. I think that he would be so happy to see us get married, but not mushy. i am going to have a bo-k charm with his pic and im walking down the aisle to the string quartet version of a bob dylan song (his fav) and we will do different things throughout to remind us of him.

Not sure about FH but I lost 2 grandparents. My maternal grandfather when I was an infant and my paternal grandmother 2 weeks before my Sweet 16. Not sure what we'll do if anything at all.
