QOTD: If you could take a year and live anywhere in the world, where would you go? Money no object and taking FI is optional.
I am not sure I would live in a single place. I would prefer to travel and maybe do a few weeks in several European cities and then Australia, NZ, South Africa as the seasons suit. I would take FI with me -- I like having adventures with him.

This is an EASY one, Deb. I would move back to Dublin for one more year. My folks are not as young as they used to be, and I appreciate them so much more now than when I was in my 20's.ETA: I would definitely take FH with me. He'd fit right in!

Irish-I love Ireland and have gone twice. I went for a month all around (excpet for Ulster County) about 10 years ago, just before college with the bulk of the trip in smaller places -- I remember loving Killarney and Sligo and their spirit. Went more recently with FI -- this past year for 2 weeks and was struck by how much, especially Dublin has changed -- it is now a big city, and I thought a cab driver there said it best...'Dublin had gotten too big for it britches' -- the thing was it was crowded and had all the awfulness of any big city -- where what I had relished about being there last time was how much each place had such a unique personality and charm -- felt like Dublin had traded it in for bigcityhood? I have asked Irish friends about this and have gotten all sorts of opinions about the changes there -- what do you think?

I would bring FI, and I would go anywhere we could both relax, road bike and eat well. I'm thinking time in Italy, Greece, California and Colorado? I haven't ever been to those two states or those two conuntries but I hear good things! :) I would let FI kick my butt on the climbs and kill him on the flats....we're 'compatible' that way.

I wouldnt be able to pick just one place, I think I would travel and see as much as I can
but if I had to settle for only one place than I would live somewhere in Tahiti, maybe on island of Morea

That's funny! It's exactly what I say - Dublin has lost most of it's charm. I moved here 5 years ago, just as the 'Celtic Tiger' was starting, but go back at least once a year, so it's less of a drastic change each time. Believe it or not, Ireland is a by-product of the US and is often referred to as East New York! So, we are very grateful for US industry and it explains the big city attitude. For me though, it still has the same family and friends, which is all the charm I need.
Saying that, I would still only go for a year - I

I would take a year off with him (not staying in one place) and travel to all the places WE both have always dreamt of seeing. We would do half a year traveling for historical purposes, (Germany, Poland, North Africa, and Jerusalem); for me. Then I would take the remainder of the year for relaxation, in Greece (Athens and Santorina), Italy (Rome, Venice, Florence), and France which would be more for the both of us.
Maybe even end the trip in Ireland.
To have dreams

Half the year in Manhattan in a penthouse and the other half on a working farm in the middle of Iowa or something.

Would probably spend the year traveling to different places around the world. I would eventually get homesick though. I would have to bring FI and our daughter.I'm actually supposed to be going to Cuba the next time my dad goes. I've never met the family I have there.

I would spend the year in England, half the time living in a private country house on the English countryside, and half the time visiting every Great House I could. FI would have to wait til I got back because he thinks this kind of thing is totally cornball.
Yes I'd miss him, but he'd rather miss me than be a 'Miss Nancy' for a year in an English country house.

I would take my FH and move to Alaska for one year. I would never want to live there permanently (would miss the warm weather!), but I have been there twice and I think it has the most spectacular scenery and wildlife. Everything is so clean and wild - the scale of the landscape is amazing. So it would be fun to live there for a year.
