Berlin, and then Prague -

Why Debs, have you been?

Never been, but I took German for 6 years in school, so I've always wanted to go to Germany and really learn about the German culture (i'm 1/2 german, but don't really know many German customs since I mainly grew up with my Italian family).

And yes, I'm a total nerd, but I saw Chasing Liberty last year and became obsessed with seeing Prague for some reason. I'm not sure why :P

I don't think Dublin has lost any of its charm. . . but charm is hard to describe and define, so everyone is totally entitled to their opinion regarding it.

I lived in Dublin briefly in 1993 and for a year, 2000-2001. I'm certainly not an expert - so this is just based on my (limited) experience. It has certainly grown and now looks a lot more like nyc or london than it did, but my family who still lives there said they like it much better now - there are tons more restaurants in the city centre, more theatres have opened, tons more galleries have popped up, etc. There is a kitch element that is fairly new - The temple bar area is silly - all tourists walking around thinking they're going into authentic pubs - when they're more likely to meet a bunch of other americans. Real estate is way too expensive and taxes are going way up, but that's true in so many places.

But in terms of theatre and the arts, this is a great time for Dublin and Ireland in general. You can go to the theatre/galleries every night for around 6-7 months in Dublin alone, seeing something new each night.

I agree, I would love to just travel. I did a bit of it when I went to school in England, but I would love to do it again, but for longer.

Places of interest are Italy, southern France, Japan, China, Austrailia, Egypt, Isriel (if it werent for the war), Sweden, and some tropical places like Hawaii, oh and the Amazon.

I LOVE Dublin - I think it's a fantatic place to live. I lived in the city centre, northside - Ormond Quay. My time there was some of the best time of my life. I could very easily go back.

Italy
India
Tahiti
Autralia
All of Europe
(a few weeks or more in each)

and then i'd want to spend most of the time volunteering to build houses/ renovate and restore some small, poor African or central/ south american village ... to raise the quality of life

ETS: i'd take FH... if he'd be ready to work

I think it was more that I was so smitten with the countryside pace and lifestyle and that I personally, (very individual) was surprised by what a 'big city' personality Dublin had become. Indeed, there are great parts -- like theatre and art, and bad, like NY, hustle bustle., It is still an incredible place and we will go back -- it was just a sense.

France, Italy, England (Bath), California, Bora Bora, Amsterdam, Brazil, Thailand, Miami, Prague, Portugal...I could really go on and on because there's not many places I wouldn't want to live, at least for a little while!

I would absolutely bring FH with me...I love traveling with him and it would probably be the greatest year of our lives!

Re: QOTD: If you could take a year and live anywhere in the world, where would you go? Money no object and taking FI is optional.

I would probably spend most of the time in Wales researching my family's genealogy. But I would take shorter trips to other European countries that I have family ties to (such as England, Italy, Germany, etc.)

There is this ship that goes around the world and you get on and off as you choose. I would go everywhere on an around the world jaunt with FI. My second pic would be to get a 60 sailboat and go just by ourselves. That is my future dream someday even when we have kids.

All of the following with FI - I would love to visit Italy and meet my relatives. I think I would love to spend 1 month in a different place. To keep it mysterious I would go to Italy and then just throw darts at a map to figure my next destination!

Re: QOTD: If you could take a year and live anywhere in the world, where would you go? Money no object and taking FI is optional.

well, first i'd spend a couple of months in italy because fh has never been there and i miss my family like crazy... then i'd spend a month each in the galapagos islands (birdwatching) and then in africa on safari. then a couple of months in australia and new zealand... then 3 months in the south pacific and east asia... then back to europe - paris, prague, the greek islands, and the dalmation coast...

omg, can't wait till the honeymoon...!
