QOTD: May 16, 2011

Original post by MNM0805

First I'd like to thank LTrivitt for choosing me as BOTW. I will try to ask questions that haven't been asked. If I do repeat a previous question, I apologize.

Are you changing your last name after you marry FH? Are you keeping your maiden name, taking FH's last name as your own, combinding your last names, or FH is taking your last name as his own?

I'm taking FH's last name as my own. At first I was thinking of hyphenating our last names since I am in the teaching profession but then I decided I don't care! Just the other day I asked the boy who I'm 1:1 with, whose autistic, if he will call me by my new last name next year when he sees me. His answer was 'No, your Ms. H!' Needless to say, I will be changing my name and cannot wait. It definitely will be something to get used to but I'm looking forward to it!

I answered this on Lana's post.

I'm really stressed over it and it was very hard for me to decide to hyphenate

taking FHs name. I am going from having a name that is commonly misspelled, to a name is commonly misspelled AND mispronounced! But I won't be taking his immediately...

I am keeping mine but here is an interesting article I saw yesterday on this exact topic.

The Name Change Dilemma

That's where I got the idea for my first question of the week!

I am amazed by how many of us still stick to the 'tradition' of changing our last names to our FH's last name.

It definitely will be a big change and lots of paperwork, but I'm definitely looking forward to having FH's last name as my own!!

I'm changing it! And I'm excited to. I'll miss my maiden name but I feel like a big part of my marriage is becoming one with FH. I don't have a career where I use my last name alot.

This!! I think it will be fun to switch- guys don't have the opportunity

I always joke around about this... my last name is Polis which is greek for city and I will be changing it to Hedges (his last name).... so I tell people that I'm going from a city to a bush

i'm changing it, although i am sad about losing my maiden name, I'm excited to become one as a family with FH.

I work as a substitute teacher in 3 districts, so i've already decided that whoever i feel like being that day, I will tell them that name hahaha. just to keep my maiden name sometimes... i thought it would be fun (i'm hardly ever in the same classroom)

I took his last name, am still in the name change process but ss,DMV and the bank are all done. I always knew I would have my hubby's last name but when MIL said that maybe I shouldnt take his last name I ran to change it as soon as I got the license...watch out, there is a new mrs. Penfold in town!
