with this FREEZING weather, the FH and I talked about moving to Florida, but then we talked about the reasons we wouldn't...
so my question for today is
What (if anything) is keeping you in NY ?? family? job? need for season? fear?
What would it take for you to move to warmer climates?

First of all Congrats on being Bride of the Week!!!
What (if anything) is keeping you in NY ?? My family. I am an only child and very close to my family so I couldn't just get up and leave. Also, I want my parents to be in my son's life so that would be a tough desicion to make....
What would it take for you to move to warmer climates? If my parents were willing to move, I would so go to a warmer state and the rent and mortgage is so much cheaper!!!

Very good first question Naomi...and Congrats!!!!!!!!!
FH and I actually agreed to move to West Palm Beach, FL in about 2 years. I have a lot of family there.Nothing is really holding us back here other than my family, but they can come and visit and I also will be coming back.
We are planning on buying our first place there. We just hate the cold weather. We want to be close to the beach.

pretty much the only thing that's keeping us here is family. I do enjoy the NY fast pace lifestyle although FH claims that I move like a turtle
what would it take me to move?? - MONEY. and i know FH would say the same thing

The ONLY thing keeping me in NY is FH. He is a born and bred NYer and only lived outside the 5 boroughs/ Long Island when he was in college. I would LOVE to move, but he is firmly planted in NY soil.
I have talked about moving to Charlotte since it is a growing city, and the opportunities for both of us are a lot, and they get all 4 seasons.
I have said if I got an amazing job offer in Charlotte, I informed FH he would have to follow me. His response 'Why would you even apply for a job down there?'

I would love to move out of state but my family and job are keeping me here. Of course my friends but I can make new ones. I don't want to be far from my parents and with my field, I need to be in a big city and NYC is the best for it right now.

FH works for coned and can't leave NY till he retires. I'll move anywhere but I'm not too keen on Florida. Thats where FH wants to go when we retire. Maybe. As for now the only thing keeping me in NY is FH. I would move home to Alaska if he would go.

FH and talk about leaving all the time. We really want to move out to San Diego but the cost of living is the same as it is here. We also talk about maybe going to Florida since my family is down there and FH's family plans on moving there soon. What's keeping us? I guess the fear of leaving your whole life behind. We both were born and raised here, never went away to school, so we dont know what it would be like to leave. We are going to really talk more once the wedding is over tho since we plan on buying a house within the next year .

FH and I both love Long Island....I can't see us ever moving
Plus, both of our families are here and I wouldn't want to leave them.
Also...we have all of our very close friends here...I honestly can't see leaving them either!
We are un-adventerous I guess FH once brought up maybe moving to CT, which isn't even such a far move, and I was like 'are you kidding???'

My FH is a fireman, so we have about 13 years before we would even be able to move out of NY, but I don't think I could do it!!
I would miss my family / friends too much and when I have kids I wouldn't want them to be the kids who 'aren't from here' ya know?
Plus I'd get into fights b/c I'd always be a Yankee fan no matter where I live <33

Re: QOTD ** Mon 1/24/11**
congrats naomi!!! so happy you're botw!
FH is married to the state (well really the county) until he retires, so that's a big part of why we're staying here. we both come from big families and they're (mostly) all in NY, so i couldn't leave them either.
i really love the seasons here, but i could do without the high price of living and the overcrowding.
i don't know if we'll ever really leave though. i definitely wouldn't be able to live far away from my parents or sister. plus, all of my friends are here too.

Re: QOTD ** Mon 1/24/11**
I already left
I decided that after college I wanted to not live in NY anymore, so I moved to Oregon for grad school. I met FH while I lived out there and we LOVED it! The only bad part was how far it was from our families.
Currently, we live in Chapel Hill, NC and love it here too. Although any of you ladies who think NC is SO much warmer than NY, its really not. Its in the 20s and 30s here in the winter and snows every now and then! Although this past week its been 50
I don't regret leaving LI at all, even though I grew up there. I can't afford to live there, and its just too much keeping up with the Joneses for my liking!

The only thing keeping me in NY is my family!! I love warm weather and would move to Florida or Cali in a heart beat if I could take everyone with me! FH and I are both super close to our families so it would be heartbreaking for me to not live near them - especially once we have children!
If one of us got an AWESOME job offer in another state I think we would seriously consider moving but we would be taking A LOT of trips back to NY!!

Well the only thing really keeping me here is that it's NY and I flipping love it LOL I can't handle too much sun, I don't like the heat and I need a change of seasons.
But also mostly b/c all of my family and friends are here. I would NEVER leave my Grandparents right now and to be honest, I wouldn't leave my parents either.
Both our jobs are here and since FH is a tenured teacher we wouldnt be moving for another 20 years anyway.
Plus - I want to rasie a family here. No other place like it - obviously not in the exact town I live in now but either LI or even a little more upstate would be great - but that wont happen until FH retires.

The only thing keeping us in NY is our families. We were both raised on LI and lived all our lives in NY, even in college..we both would love the opportunity to live somewhere else but I doubt it would ever happen.
The only places either of us could get a job would be NY or LA....The LA weather seems really enticing right now.
