with this FREEZING weather, the FH and I talked about moving to Florida, but then we talked about the reasons we wouldn't...
so my question for today is
What (if anything) is keeping you in NY ?? family? job? need for season? fear?
What would it take for you to move to warmer climates?

The only thing keeping us here right now is our jobs.
We want to move to SD so our kids can have grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles around (FH is an only child and has only a grandma in terms of immediate family)..Friends will be your friends anywhere you live - I learned that being here for 8 years.

The wedding! We are moving soon after. Probably will be looking for a job in NC come August/September. It sucks that I will have to leave my parents, but FH's parents and brothers left here years ago in search of a more affordable life, and he stayed because of me. Now it's my turn to leave my family. We know we could NEVER afford a house here. Paying the insane rent here makes it so hard to save any money. We are struggling right now with the wedding. We didn't have the option to live at home. I never felt I fit in on long island, so hopefully NC will be a better fit for me!

My family and my FH's job. It's too good to give up and he wouldn't make as much if he went out of state.
When we retire. I am getting outta hea! I can't take this cold/snow anymore

Well actually nothing is gonna keep us in NY! Although family is the biggest thing to hinder us! But after the wedding we are moving to north carolina! Family can come visit

I did leave. My family moved first though, so the only thing really keeping me in NY was friends and my extended family (aunts, uncles, etc.)
I'm down in AZ and I love it. Is it NY? No, but nothing really is. I love the weather, the fact that I can afford a house and afford to be a stay at home mom if FH and I decided that would be the way for us to go. I have never looked back.

love this question!!!
I really would LOVE to move to California, but I have a great and rapidly expanding family and I'll never ever leave. FH is in the film industry and moving to Cali would be great for him, but we're not going anywhere. Although, if we were rich, we'd get a 2nd home there!!!

Family and jobs are what keep us here. My FH and I have talked about it numerous times but we will always be on LI! :)

Re: QOTD ** Mon 1/24/11**
Mainly family...mine in LI, FH's in CT. Also, my job field has the best benefits in the country. I'd only leave if I knew I could remain in the same retirement tier I'm currently in (just in case I ever decided to come back). But if I could escape to warmer weather....I'd be there!!!!!! (perhaps Spain or anywhere south!)

I love NYC but only thing keeping me here is my family and my job. If my job asked me to transfer, id be on the first plane to Argentia or Laos. At least for a couple of years. Then ill come back here to raise our family

I'd move in a heartbeat but we are stuck here for another 16 years until FH can retire from the FDNY hahaha. BUT i know he wont retire after 20 years, he'll work until he cant work anymore hahah. I'd like to live somewhere its warm with no humidity. Vegas please!! hahaha

\Ive lived out of state and I rejoiced the day I decided to move back. You can never make the money you make here down there so if you have eh jobs like FH and I have right now our income would be about half less. It would be awesome if the weather was nice all year around but its so weird when you live in FL and you hardly get seasons. Fh would move in a heart beat he hates the northeast but i know i would miss everything about LI and NY and I just cant. thats is part of the reason why I didnt want to move to CT. Also I love my cousins to death and I dont want to move away from them.
ps my parents are moving to FL once Dad retires next year.

I would love to move to Cali but my FH is in the process of taking exams to become a licensed architect in NY so it looks like we are staying here....I wouldn't want to leave my mom anyway...she is all alone and would be lost without me..she worked too hard for her house she will never move out...oh well....at least I get to travel to Cali 6 times a year for work

My fiance is NYPD. that's the ONLY thing keeping us in NY besides our families. I would love to move out of NY, especially to be able to afford a house!!

CONGRATS on being BOTW!!
I am such a NY'er. I wouldn't fit in anywhere else! lol but...both fh & I are very close with our families, and there is no way I could move far from any of them ( we all live within a 10 mile radius now!)

Re: QOTD ** Mon 1/24/11**
i realized I never gave my reasons
my day job is getting in the way of my LIW time LOLOLOL
I want to move because the cost of living is so ridiculous here, and I would love to be a stay at home mom, but I can't living in NY ( money would be tight)
HOWEVER - I need seasons! all my friends and family are here, and so are his. I love the culture and diversity in NY. I NEED GOOD BAGELS AND PIZZA!!
SO if we did move, it would be like Maryland, so that we could drive up like every weekend (on 3 hours to drive)
