If you could give one piece of wedding planning advice to a newly engaged girl... what would it be?
My advice would be to have a long engagement!!
By the time I get married, we will have been engaged for almost 2 years and I wouldn't ask for any thing less!
Having a long engagement allowed us a few months to enjoy being engaged without any planning. It also allowed us to thoroughly do our research and be able to get the choice of vendors that are our first pick since we booked early. And of course it allows us time to save our money!
It's a pain to wait.... but it'll be worth the wait!

My advice is not to disclose too much info to people. And Everyone has an opinion and everyone thinks they know best. Just smile and nod and say I will look into it. And do what u want instead.

I would give this advice..
1) Opt for a long engagement!! I totally agree with you Kelly! It has been so nice knowing that I'm not rushing the planning and can enjoy it with FH.. my little groomzilla!
2)Join LIWeddings!!!! Best planning tool by far.. and have met soooo many amazing ladies!
3)Live with FH.. I saw firsthand how my brother's marriage fell apart and it realllly freaked me out with moving in with FH.. I was so worried that we would start fighting more but it really has been a joy! And makes me SOOOO much more confident that I am making the right decision!

I would definitely say don't disclose too much information to everyone because everyone has an opinion and not everyone will be happy for you no matter how much they pretend to be.
Also have a long engagement because you do not want to be crazy planning in a short period of time.
At the end of the day do what will make you and FH happy!

^^^^ THIS!!
My advice would be to take your time and enjoy the planning process. Set a budget and stick to it as much as you can. And most importantly, and I have to remind myself of this, remember what a wedding is really about. Two people who love each other. None of that other stuff is that important.

Take your time and enjoy it!!
This is one of the best times of our lives and we shouldn’t get too stressed out. We got engaged in May 2011 and I really didn’t start planning until Oct/Nov 2011 for our 2013 wedding. I’m also finding not to stress the small stuff. Just because I think that personalized napkins are important, my guests probably won’t.

Take a deep breathe and relax. Take your time with the planning and cherish every moment. And don't tell people too much of what you're doing. Do what you like and if they don't like it, tough, it's not their wedding

SOOOOOOOO TRUE! I got engaged in July and didn't start booking or looking at anything until about December. Relax and enjoy the time you have. Long engagements are amazing
Great Question!

do what your instincts tell you... you know your taste, and your ideas (i mean we ALL have been planning our weddings since we were 5) dont let someone else's opinion deter you from what you REALLY want!

I would say have about a year or two to get everything to together and enjoy every minute of it and dont let the little things stress you out and make sure u have fun planning it!!!!!!!!!!

Re: *** QOTD Thursday, 3/8/12 ***
another great question!
My one piece of advice would be to scour pinterest, weddingbee, offbeatbride, weddingchicks etc to decide what you really want in a wedding.
It's funny this comes after the above comment because I never had envisioned 'my day' before, so once we got engaged I went into overdrive trying to figure out how to balance my tastes with the stereotypical blinged-out weddings. Luckily there is /amazing/ info out there!

Totally agree!! We moved in together after 14 months dating and got engaged a month later. It was the best decision I made.

Take your time and trust your gut. People think I am crazy that we our having a 28 month engagement but I am enjoying every second of it. Also, everyone going to want to give their advice and ideas but I feel the best thing to do is go with how you feel.
