I knew I was getting engaged soon because FH left his inbox open with an email subject of 'setting' and I saw the word deposit. So I know it was coming.
I had emailed him my dream ring 2 months before and said, 'if I was going to the jeweler this is what i would get.' He definitely followed my lead and got a ring real close.

We had talked about it a lot (we were together for 5 years before we got engaged) He also took me to look at rings a few times too. I didn't know when it would happen though and i was super shocked when he did it!
I was very specific about what i wanted haha. He got me exactly what i was hoping for.. he did a great job =)

I knew, he took me to pick it out...we never discussed budget before hand, just what I liked, and what I thought reasonable

We had talked about getting engaged for a while before we actually did. I had a feeling it was coming because the talks were getting more and more serious.
I didn't pick out the ring or design. We had window shopped before and I had emailed him pictures of styles that I liked. He went on his own and picked out the most gorgeous ring ever!!

I knew we would be getting engaged within the next few months, but FH threw me off when he said he still needed time to save. He proposed Dec. 17th and I was thinking it would be closer to March.
FH knew that I wanted a round stone, and a plain band (was afraid I would hate a fancy band if he picked it out)...I got exactly what I asked for
FH asked me to marry him on December 17th too!!! That was a great day!

FH truly surprised me as to 'when'. I had no idea it was coming. I was HOPING this would be the year but I wasn't sure. He kept talking about how he had to save some more, and how he wanted to keep fixing up the house...blah blah blah. He also said he would never do it around a holiday and that's exactly when he did it....December 17th! Was supposed to be the 18th (that's what my parents and a couple of friends were expecting) but he couldn't wait
He kept a VERY good secret!
He knew I either wanted a pear or marquis shaped diamond and I had shown him pics of settings I loved. He took my friend and the two of them went to the city one day and he designed my ring! I'm so in love with it!!

I kinda knew but had no idea when...and this leads into the second part of the question...he asked me what kind of ring I wanted if he ever proposed lol I got mad at him for ruining my 'one day' suprise, but I told him anyway, and he listened

i knew what ring i was getting after being with FH for two years, the ring is the ring from his biologrical dad that had passed away when his mom was pregant with FH but the actual proposal was a total surprise even though i had given him until Christmas 2010 and if not i would have to move back home but he had surprised me ten days before our five year anniversary when he popped the question.

1. Did you know you were getting engaged? Yes, I knew he was going to ask me, we had spoke about it at length. I thought it was going to happen around the holiday's but he was sneaky and popped the question in October.
2. Did you design/pick out your ring? Or was it a total surprise? FH wanted my input since I can be incredibly picky. For months I could find anything I remotely liked. Until, we met with a jeweler who is a friend of FH family. I picked out what I wanted as my center stone. FH designed my setting.

Great questions!!
1.) FH and I talked about it a little bit here and there but not in depth ..also he did it on a totally random day when I had work the next day so I was not expecting it AT ALL!!
2.) I told him a couple of styles I liked but nothing serious. He 100% picked out my setting on his own and its absolutely AMAZING! .. The center stone is his great great grandmothers passed down so I am honored to have it!

1.) FH and I had been together at that point for 3.5 years and we booked a trip to Ireland so I thought in the back of my head that it could happen but I wasn't 100% sure. So two months after we booked our trip my grandmother passed away who was one of my best friends and someone who I was sooo close to and also originally from Ireland. So anyway it was the fourth day of our trip and we were walking around the Cliffs of Moher and they have this tower called the O'Briend tower ( grandmas married name) so we went up there and I was looking out at the water and all the sudden I turn around and he was on his knees, thats when I couldn't stop crying ha ha
2.) I would always go on tiffanys.com and play around with the ring designer they have and show him jokingly and so FH family has a jeweler and he told what I liked and it was custom made and is sooooo beautiful! I love it!!!

I definitely had NO IDEA! I was so surprised when he asked me that I had to sit down because I was shaking! hahaha!
