I’m assuming that today is back to work and school for most of us. Boo-Hoo. It would only make sense for me to ask….
Are any of you hoping to not have to work or work part time once you an FH are settled and possibly have started a family?
FH always says that his goal is to make that decision up to me, and still be able to live comfortably if I choose to either not work or take on a reduced schedule. I know that this will not happen for a long time, but it would be nice if I was able to choose. I think I’ll want to work, maybe takeoff when we have babies, but once they start school I think I’d like to work again (reduced schedule). I won’t hold my breath though, LI is so expensive! haha

I couldnt imagine not working- with FH being FDNY i know he is not going to be rakin in the bills! but between the two of us we willdo pretty well for ourselves... granted that no one on Long Island can afford a single family income anymore-- well almost no one!

I love my career and couldnt see myself not working. I worked really hard to be where I am.
I see children adding to my life and still working full time to eb as successful as possible.

I would love to not work....and be a full time stay at home mom.
FH is an electrical engineer for a Manhattan Hospital...by next October he will make enough money that I won't have to work....also we are serioulsy considering either moving about 45 from the city or somewhere in NJ.
He said his one goal...is to have his wife raise his kids i love the sound of that!

im not sure about this. one part of me wants to keep working, at least part time, but the other half wants to stay home and raise our children. if we can afford it, i think ill stay home and raise them till they go to school then start working again. but ill see when the time comes.

I would like to go back to work after having kids. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

FH always wanted his wife to be a stay at home mom, and not have to work.... but then again it's up to me what i decide to do... i always wanted to be a stay at home mom, but with the way things are going up in price it doesn't seem likely it's going to happen...

We're planning on having me stay home full time initially when we have kids and eventually for me to work part time. My ultimate dream would be to freelance on the side to help pay bills. Plus we hope to get a house with an apartment to help with costs.

I am going to keep working until our second child. It all depends on our finances when exactly I can stop working. If they are good and can live comfortably, then I will get to decide what I want to do. I have been so career orientated but I believe I will be able to take some time off and then maybe I can do consulting.

I would LOVE to stay home and raise our kids when we have them. Unfortunately, FH laughs at that idea. We both don't want to leave NY and we definitely couldn't afford it on just one income. We can barely afford our apartment on 2 incomes! Makes me so jealous of FSIL who quit her job just before her baby was born (who just turned one) because her husband makes a lot of money.

I would love to just raise my children but that's probably not going to happen bc LI is soo expensive. I probably will go back to work hopefully part time but might have to be full time

fortunately teaching is a good job to have as a mom (leave, vacation, etc.) there's no chance i'm going to be a stay-at-home mom. we'll never be able to afford it without sacrificing a lot of the things that are important to us, and i would be climbing the walls if i couldn't work.

I haven't even started my career yet. I'm still in school, getting my doctorate in psychology. There's no chance that I would not work, considering all the time, effort, and money I've put into my education.

Hoping to be able to stay home when they're little and then go back to work once they're in school (being a teacher has its perks!)

I'll definitely be working. I hope that one day it will be an option but I think it would be really hard for us to start living without my salary.
