i was with my ex for 7 years before FH.
My ex and I were actually engaged to be married and 11 days before the wedding he called the whole thing off.
his parents were poor lower middle class but his dad had a fantadtic job and made, literally, millions every year and in bonuses. my family emigrated to this country and we are just middle class. suffice it to say, they didn't think i was good enough. they didn't like my parents but since they didn't see each other too often i let it go. mistake #1. my parents knew i loved him so they reassured me that the in laws didn't have to get along if we loved each other.
his parents were always very nice to me and we always got along very well. until the wedding planning. then it became the time from HELL.
his parents wanted to pick out everything and would force us to do things a specific way. my ex had no back bone and would go along with everything and i would tell him no, thats not what i wanted. he says he tried talking to them, but who knows if he really did.
Oh, and fyi - we were paying for this wedding, so they really had no say in what was planned but they put their big fat ugly feet into everything.
when it came time for us to pick out invitations, i picked out the ones i liked, my ex liked them too, we had them printed to say 'together with our parents' and WWIII erupted. they wanted to the invties to have their names on it, but get this, make no mention of my parents names! i was like, ***! hell no! then they wanted their own set printed with just their names on it and they would send them to just their guests, again i said no. eventually, we had to pay another $1K to have them redone with both of our parents names on them. mind you, my parents thought they were fine the first time and couldn't understand the additional cost.
when it came time for my bridal shower, my sister, also my MOH, sent out cute little e-vits to the BM's just to let them know what she was planning to do esince everyone was better with e-mail than phones. the evite made her choose a date but the actual date of the shower wasn't picked out yet at the time. in the body of the evite, she let them know the date on the evite wasn't correct and to checkback to see what date it would be. well! on BM was my ex's sister and she went running to his mom who proceeded to call my mom and tell her that that day wasn't good for. she then called me and told me she was trying to call my mom and tell her that the date she chose for my bridal shower (she actually told me the date, which wasn't really the date) wasn't good for her. my mom and sister were LIVID! my mom was paying for the whole shower and she was going to ask his mom what dates were good for her, but this was like 3 months before my shower so she hadn't narrowed anything down yet, but she knew it would have been in that month. it was also supposed to be a surprise shower! can i just say agin that my MOH specifically told everyone the date on the evite wasn't the date of the shower? int he end, i had to pretend that i was surprised about the shower when i really knew about it so i wouldn't break my mom's heart.
Throughout the planning, his mom would take jabs and verbally make fun of my mother, which when i found out about it, i had it out with her and she still kept doing it, but not to my face. i only afterwards founds out from my mom that she kept doing it after we broke up.
When i picked out my BM dresses, i had gone to David's Bridal to make it easy for everyone. I showed her a pic of the dress and she flipped out because it was strapless and it would fall down since it had no straps. I actually had to go as far as calling my consultant and her manager at that specific DB (who were amazing by the way) to tell them that the designer did not allow alterations of that type to be made in this dress because i knew she was going to go behind my back and have them added on, or at least try to have them added on. and guess what! she did! but since i had already warned them, they knew what to say.
later, we wanted a DJ, they really wanted us to have a band, that we had to pay for and couldn't afford at the time. they 'let' us have the DJ. we bought the package where the DJ gives out party favors, like lei's stuff like that that gets the party going. another drama over this! we couldn't have the favors because they would cheapen the event - serioulsy stupid. i don't know if i would have won this argument or not because this was the last fight we had that caused my ex and i to break apart.
afterwards, my parents and i drive to their house, my ex's father wasn't at home, and his mother wouldn't let us in the house, oh! and my ex was standing right behind her not saying a word! i was like ***! sobbing because they wouldn't let us in. This was on a Friday. i didn't hear from him all weekend. This was also the weekend that the furniture store was supposed to deliver our furniture to our new apt (which i had redirected to his house so i wouldn't have to pay for it, don't know whtat happened to that furniture, i really did love that bed

)
he wrote me an email on monday saying that we shouldn't be together anymore. that's it. an e-mail. after 7 years. one lousy line in an e-mail.
the kicker!!!! i had to start calling vendors to cancel and see if we could get any protion of my money back at least! when i called Sandals, we were booked to go to St. Lucia, the rep told me he had called on Friday and gotten whatever he could get back then. He didn't break up with me until Monday! the A$$hole took the whole weekend to get back what money he could without giving me a chance to!
i wish i could print this guys name out all over the internet so he could be permanently slandered forever and ever.
what a douche bag
end rant.
