****QOTD Wednesday 8/12/09****

Ok, so, we are looking for a house (we live in a townhouse right now) and we are trying to decide the key areas that we want to buy in. The conversation started with me saying that I wanted to look in the area that I grew up in because it was really nice and my family happen to live in that area still and him saying that he wanted to look in the area that he used to live in where his Mom and sister currently live. This brings me to my QOTD.....

This one is a three parter:
a) Where did you grow up? Hauppauge
b) Where did FH grow up? Brooklyn
c) When you move in together or buy a house where will you look to buy and why? Not sure, thus the question. We live in Islip now and are thinking of staying in the Islip, East Islip, West Islip or Bay Shore area, sort of in the middle of our families...

ETA: My answer! Sorry, I got busy and couldn't answer my own question!

a) Where did you grow up?
I was born in Ozone Park, Queens and lived there until I was 12 when we moved to the Bethpage/Levittown area. FH and I live in the downstairs apartment of my parents house.

b) Where did FH grow up?
Bensonhurst, Brooklyn

c) When you move in together or buy a house where will you look to buy and why?
We're looking for a house in the same area we live now. We want to be close to my family. His family mostly all live on LI now too just further out east so we'll be pretty close to them too!

2. Huntington, NY

We will look for a place somewhere on the Island because thats where is business is. Our future is his business so there really is not much of a choice.

Im just not looking forward to all the Island traffic. YUK!

I moved around a lot as a child but basically was settled in West Babylon when I was in 4th grade. FH grew up in West Babylon also, we went to HS together. We are planning on buying our first home together In W.B, b/c his whole family is there w/all our friends that are basically family. It's going to be nice to be so close to loved ones.
I'm really excited.

a) Where did you grow up?
I was born in NY and lived in 3 other states untill 1999 when my family moved back to NY.

b) Where did FH grow up?
FH was born in Detroit and lived in a lot of other states. We met in HS when we both lived in Charlotte, NC and when we reconnected 3 years ago he was living in Charlotte and then relocated to NY to live with me.

c) When you move in together or buy a house where will you look to buy and why?
We bought a house in Levittown. My father and sister live in Wantagh and the rest of my family lives on Long Island. FH's family lives in Florida and he never wanted to live near his family. We both would have loved to move out of NY but since I lost my mom in 2007 I can't imagine living far away from my dad and my sister.

3. We live together now in NJ, but are looking to relocate within the year to LI.

a) Where did you grow up? Northport
b) Where did FH grow up? Malverne
c) When you move in together or buy a house where will you look to buy and why? We live together (3 yrs now) in Lindenhurst. We just started the house search yesterday and want to stay in the general area.

I grew up in St. James, and FH grew up in Dix Hills. Despite how snotty that sounds, we're both from the more modest parts of town.

We're primarily looking for homes more in my vicinity than his...namely town of Smithtown. We just can't afford Dix Hills, naturally. Also looking at parts of East Northport and Northport, but we like the Smithtown and parts of Three Village areas more because we feel it's closer to more shopping and conveniences that we frequent, and scarily enough, that is a factor.

I'm from Woodhaven Queens

FH is from Glendale Queens

We're looking to move anywhere out of where we are now. Probably out east-well 'East' to us is like borderline Queens/Nassau county lol

I grew up in Huntington

FH grew up in Maspeth...

We just bought in North Bellmore. We both work in NYC and wanted to be close enough to commute and equidistant between our parents. I lost my dad in 2007 and it was hard on me driving back and forth from Queens (where we just moved from) all the time...the traffic is enough to drive you mad!!!!!!!

a) Where did you grow up? I moved a couple of times when I was younger. I was born in Malverne and then moved to Valley Stream when I was in junior high. After that we lived in Farmingdale. My first apt was in Jericho and now I'm in West Babylon
b) Where did FH grow up? Bayshore
c) When you move in together or buy a house where will you look to buy and why? We just went to contract on a house in East Islip. It was really tough to figure out where we wanted to live and a GIANT compromise. FH wanted to move up to the north shore (Kings Park, Smithtown), but I didn't want to move from the south shore. My mom and one sister live in Amityville, and I didn't want to be so far away from them. I wanted to move back to Nassau County - FH wanted to stay in Suffolk.

East Islip was the compromise town. I got the south shore, FH got Suffolk County and south of Montauk Highway.

c) When you move in together or buy a house where will you look to buy and why?
West Babylon...we close on Tuesday!!! In between our jobs!

We bought a house in Farmingville. We bought it because it is an awesome house with a bunch of property in a good school district at the right price !

I grew up in Glen Cove, NY and FH grew up just outside of Chicago, but was living outside of Dayton, Ohio until he moved here. Right now we live together in Glen Cove and we'll probably buy a house here or in Sea Cliff or somewhere else pretty close by. I told FH when we started dating there was NO WAY I was EVER going to live in Ohio and he said that was fine because he hated there and wanted to leave

b) Where did FH grow up? West Hempstead
c) When you move in together or buy a house where will you look to buy and why? We rent in Floral Park right now but we're looking at houses in the Massapequa/Plainview area... we'll see what happens!

I grew up in New Hyde Park all my life
FH grew up in Bloomfield NJ till he was 11 then he moved to Queens and the moved to Floral Park when he was 18

I use to want to live in new hyde park all my life concidering i always did and most of my family was there, but it is just not the same as it was growing up.

When we started looking for apt...we really wasnt picky...we just wanted a nice place in a nice area, that we can afford and was kinda close to wear we work.

we found a cute little apt in Massapequa!! and since living here for the last 4 months we LOVE the area! when looking for a house (hopefully sometime soon) we plan on staying close to massapequa area, so like belmore, lindenhurst, massapequa...etc!
