QOTD: What length is your veil and how did you decide?

GASP: QOTD is wedding related!
I am wearing dress in avatar and am short -- one foot less than FI. Planning to do 4 inch heels for ceremony/pics, which I will change for reception. I have this glamourized veil of a long flowy silk veil but I look like a troll when I put it on -- it is way too overwhelming with the detail level oin the upper piece of the dress. So I am curious what everyone else is doing. I found a beautiful antique chignon holder from the 20's and am thinking of just doing that w/out veil but am getting attitude from a couple of folks about that. Curious how all decided on yay or nay to a veil, style, material and length. SO, tell me you veil stories please. Also, my dress is really ivory -- I learned that you really need to match ivory in a veil with ivory in a dress -- did not know that and thought it might save someone else the PITA it caused me.

Re: QOTD: What length is your veil and how did you decide?

mine is cathedral length. I always wanted a really long veil, though now, I am kinda sorry I did that since I will have it on/off for pics and stuff. Definately off during reception.

But, I always liked the way long veils looked, so I got it. I am not tall either, 5'3.

Re: QOTD: What length is your veil and how did you decide?

While I think long veils are beautiful, they are not for me..

I plan on getting a full finger tip length veil. On me-- I have a small waist and with the shape of the dress- a full finger tip really helps to frame my face and torso..

I have not gone veil shopping yet- but from when I was dress shopping- this length and the fullness was really beautiful... I also do not want to interfere with all the beautiful detail on my dress- which is replicated on the back of the skirt on the train.

I think I told you that already-- but wanted to respond!

Re: QOTD: What length is your veil and how did you decide?

if you really don't feel comfortable in the long veil, maybe you can have a simple, short one, just for the ceremony. And than, not wear one at all!

Re: QOTD: What length is your veil and how did you decide?

Mine is fingertip, I didn't want cathedral or anything too long bc with teh detailing on my skirt it would have been too busy, and I'm only wearing it for the ceremony, so I didn't want it to be that elaborate

Re: QOTD: What length is your veil and how did you decide?

I know what you are all saying but it is my one little bridal concession -- I always loved the look of a really long flowy silk veil -- much like bethsiar wore. I never knew it would make me look so stout - all short and boobly.

I feel boobly quite often...

Well-- your dress-- you got the skirt with all the pick ups right?? I tried your dress on- and I think a shorter veil is the way to go.. but if you can make a long one work- and that is what you REALLY want.. go for it..

What did your Bridal Consultant recco when you picked your dress??

Re: QOTD: What length is your veil and how did you decide?

Part of the reason I'm getting mine made is because I don't like the lengths of veils out there. Mine is 32' long - it will start on top of my head, far back, and reach to my hip bone. My dress is dropped waist and I thought that neither the elbow nor the finger tip veils looked right with it.

She was pushing a long veil (because goober that I am I was like oooh I want the longest cathedral) but it was obvious to all that I looked like an idiot.

Re: QOTD: What length is your veil and how did you decide?

As of right now, I 'm going to have a cathedral lenth for the church and then a elbow length for everything after that.
My dress has a lot detailed beading on it, and thats why i'm going with the elbow instead of the fingertip lenthg. I'm hoping it doesn't overpower anything.

Re: QOTD: What length is your veil and how did you decide?

I am wearing a long cathedral length veil and embellishing it with acents from my deceased mom's dress in honor of her. I didn't like the look of a shorter veil as I felt it broke 'the line' (my dress has one uniformed pattern throughout) and I don't wish to wear one over my face. I'm 5'8' so I can get away with such a long line.

I really don;t think you should be making yourself crazy with this now.. Why don;t you wait to go in for your first fitting- and you can try on lots of different styles with your dress.. It's so hard to make this decision- you need to see everything togehter.

Well, fittings are not til next summer and I am concerned that if I do want to have something done that I will be severely limiting my options for time, you know?

Re: QOTD: What length is your veil and how did you decide?

Mine is extremely simple and I think they called it tea-length. No embroidery of any kind, no blusher and the color matches my dress seamlessly. (dress is white, btw). For me, it just got too poofy with a blusher. I have no clue what material it is. content:

I tried on cathedral length; it wasn't me and then there's my fear of tripping on it during the ceremony

I agree, the buiser the top of your dress is, the simpler the veil (if any).

It's YOUR day -- if you don't want a veil -- just don't do it!
