Well, fittings are not til next summer and I am concerned that if I do want to have something done that I will be severely limiting my options for time, you know?
I don't think veils take that long- if they did, you would need to order with your dress..
Ok- so make another appt for where you got the dress- say you want to come in and put the sample on and try on some veils..
You can do that whenever.

If it is not too much trouble, girls, could you also post your height when you say your veil length. I am trying to see if there is a pattern to it?

Nah, not a custom one like Reem's -- this would be to get a silk one made. Just was hesitant to leave it til last minute you know plus I wanted to have it to do hair practice. Whatever -- I will do as you suggested anyway, when I p/u dress - I Can always investigate then.

Re: QOTD: What length is your veil and how did you decide?
I am not doing anything custom-- and Reem's veils are like a fortune- no thanks! I mean, I am wearing my veil for ceremony, MAYBE cocktail hour and first dance.. that is like an hour and a half-- cannot justify that-- but that's just me..I think you need to head on down to either the garment district, or somehwere else and try on as much as you can-- obviously the veil is an important piece for you-- so, look around.. I don't think waiting til your first fitting is cutting it close.. if you are worried- go shopping!!

Re: QOTD: What length is your veil and how did you decide?
Alright, I'm 5'6' and was thinking of fingertip. The only details on my dress are pearls, so I would like one that's finished with faux pearls. I went to a fabric store by work this morning and I have NO IDEA what material I want! Of course, the silk would be awesome, but.....i'm just not sure if I can spend that extra money now. :( Still haven't decided about hair yet either, if I'll wear it down or up.)

Forgot to add, I am only 5' tall. I wonder if all that tulle AND the veil would be too overwhelming. It might look like it is wearing ME instead of the other way around.

I am wearing a long cathedral length veil and embellishing it with acents from my deceased mom's dress in honor of her. I didn't like the look of a shorter veil as I felt it broke 'the line' (my dress has one uniformed pattern throughout) and I don't wish to wear one over my face. I'm 5'8' so I can get away with such a long line.
That sounds so special!
Thanks. Not to hijack but I will also be keeping her chair empty and placing a single rose from my bouquet on the seat where, if fate allowed, she would be sitting... ok, now I'm having a moment but smiling at the same time.

In the process of veil hunting now... oddly, I love cathedral veils, which I didn't think I would

I saw a picture (below) and know its how I imagined myself. Same dress in the photo that I am getting (someday...seems to take forever to get the thing in!)I ordered a Cathedral Length Veil--Std. Fullness--2 Layers--35/106' - Cut Edge -
Diamond White (off-white) from veilshop.com and its perfect. The cathedral length is attached by velcro and comes off. Oh, and I'm 5'7' and will be wearing about a 2' heel.

Re: QOTD: What length is your veil and how did you decide?
I'm having a double veil (or whatever it's called) where one layer is cathedral length, which I'll take off after the ceremony, and the other layer is fingertip length, which I'll wear for most of the reception. I'm probably going to use my SIL's veil as my something borrowed since it's exactly what I'm looking for and even has the Swarovski crystals I wanted.

Re: QOTD: What length is your veil and how did you decide?
good question deb.i was all about the silk tulle until i bought my dress and it came with a veil that made the whole ensemble just 'work.'
it is a mantilla cathedral length, and the edging matches the lace on the dress, they are both ivory.
i look like i should be getting married in Italy or Spain! I am wearing it for pre-pics and ceremony, and then taking it off and putting a gardenia behing my ear for the reception.

Bunny--that sounds perfect!! It's really funny because I tried on a gorgeous dress with a mantilla veil and told my 2 BMs how I loved the look and it would be perfect for getting married at Raphael's!
It has such great Spanish-style architecture and woodwork.

Re: QOTD: What length is your veil and how did you decide?
I'm wearing a fingertip veil. I think it's just long enough to look romantic and not too long to be annoying. My friend got married in April and said her cathedral veil drove her up the wall. It kept getting stepped on and it was impossible in the limo.
