QUEENS PEOPLE.. commuting question.

I'm trying to see if there is a better way for me to get to work, i work near queens center mall.

Right now coming from massapequa pk i take the LIE to the service rd (at springfield blvd) take that to college pt blvd then have to deal with that BS where grand central and LIE merge, then get right off by lefrak city then to queens blvd) I hit a lot of traffic from kissena to after the merge.

Im trying to see if it would save me time if i took the service rd to 188th street to union trpk to queens blvd.

do you think I will hit less traffic or it will be quicker to take 188th to union to Queens Blvd?

you probably hit alot of traffic on the lie right? why dont you take the northern state and just stay on that, it turns into grand central and get off at queens blvd

188th street or union are so far from the mall

you could get off at exit 25 utopia pkway and take that to union and then to queens blvd. there isn't much traffic that way, BUT you're gonna hit a ton of lights. you might want to test it out and just see if its faster

well I car pool, so if we take the LIE from 135 we can get in the service rd and its quicker. My friend used to take northern state to grand central and said she always used to be late

I know that when i leave work and take queens blvd to union to cross island its not so bad. thought maybe from horace harding, to 188 to union the traffic might move better

its just so annoying because wed and fri it took us 2hours to get to work instead of the normal hour or so

I live in Forest Hills. I take Union Tpke to Grand Central to the Meadowbrook to Merrick everyday. I only hit traffic when I travel around rush hour.

Another option is to take LIE to Exit 32 that way you literallyt ake the HOV all the way to the end. Then get off at 32 and make a left at the light. Go about 1.5 or 2 miles and you'll hit the grand central. Get on that and continue until you hit the queens blvd. exit and get off. That way might actually be pretty quick.

I car pool too. What we do is take the LIE to the end of the HOV lane then depending on traffic either get on the grand central or we stick it out to the qeuuens blvd exit.

Smetimes I take the LIE or grand central to the Van Wick to queens blvd. that seems to go quick too.

i dont its so weird to me that you are getting off so far from the mall, i mean i live right by queens blvd and ill take it locally to the mall and that alone takes me 20-30 mins bc of the lights and traffic, and 188th thats even a completely different neighborhood and union too and theyre all further from me and even further from the mall. You can still take the LIE if you say the service road is faster but get off at a different exit, youre getting off way too early...infact theres a queens blvd exit on the LIE that leaves you 2 blocks away from the mall

YUP exactly, it splits at one point and you stay on the right hand side, it says queens blvd and its 2 blocks from the mall, this exit is ALOT closer than the queens blvd exit on the grand central bc that leaves you off by 87th avenue which is still a little far from the mall

hmm.. maybe lie to grand central is quicker i might try that

i mjust afraid that its going to take me longer and ill be late

thanks!!

yeah but i think she's saying that between 188 and the QB exit she is getting killed with traffic - that's why she wants to get off so early. she's trying to figure out if the local roads would be less traffic than what is on the LIE in queens. i think it will be less traffic, but i agree with you, the lights might make it the same amount of time, if not longer.

the queens blvd exit on the grand central is still not that close to the mall...my exit for my house is that exit and its by 87th avenue, queens mall is like 50-something avenue, youre still gonna hit alot of lights and theres traffic on queens blvd...if she stays on the LIE to exit 20 then its perfect bc right when you get off exit 20 the mall is right there

ok so after HOV ends how much further is it to grand central?

so you will stay on the LIE (not get off on service rd) and take that to queens blvd? the LIE always seems so crowded and slow.

I really appreciate this!!

i'm commuting to st johns from huntington every day, so when the LIE traffic is nasty coming into queens, i always get off at exit 32 and transfer over the the GCP. typically, the GCP gets heavy by the clearview and cross island, but is ultimately faster than sitting on the LIE on the days where it is a piece of sh*t in terms of traffic.

Another option is to hang on one more exit after springfield and get on the clearview south, take that 1 exit to the GCP. it all depends on whether the cross island is backed up!

yes we can literally get stuck after college pt blvd where it merges from more than 10 min.. it makes me nuts and a lot of times traffic is bad from kissena till after the merge. thought maybe the side streets would be better even with lights

even with no traffic, from 188th to queens mall locally its about 20 mins at least, its longer trust me, i was an idiot and i used to do it locally bc i thought it was faster and it really isn't. This way you are better off getting off at the queens blvd exit on the grand central bc although you'll hit lights its alot closer than 188th
