I think that is a wonderful idea. What a tribute to your mom. And if you make a garter out of it, you will feel so close to her. Good luck with the cleaning

As for the comment made by the second person to post here, Laur 22, and I really really am not one to stir controversy and I think everyone is entitled to their opinion, I think your comment was wildly inappropriate. Grief and remembering/paying tribute to someone is personal and not something that should be judged or devalued. Since your comment did not really add any helpful suggestions, perhaps you might have held the thought rather than question someone you do not know; why belittle it if it makes someone else happy? Perhaps the storage of a dress is not practical or is not able to be used as a complete object. Maybe the memories of her mother are strong enough not to need to hang on to a dress as a reminder. I don't know, but then again, neither do you. I have had many friends have their dresses turned into baptismal clothing for their children; is this really so different? Anyway, I guess what I am trying to say is that if you have nothing nice to say, maybe the best thing is to say nothing.
very well put!

I'm sorry, and I don't mean to be nasty, but how could you possibly use your dead mother's wedding gown as a pillow ?!?! Wow--

Re: Question
BEAUTIFUL idea I love the idea with the bouquet another way you could do it is to have a little bow made from the fabric and have it sewn into the dress near your heart.[inside not out]. Regardless of what you do you can be sure she will be looking down on you every step of the way. God Bless you and good luck.

I think that is a great idea. I have also heard of making the dress into a baptismal gown if Catholic.

If you must know the gown is ruined and can not ever be worn.

I can't even believe she posted that to you.
Anyway, if the gown is already ruined, you may not even want to have anyone try to lighten it- it could get damaged even further. I say, just use whatever fabric you can for the pillow, garter, and maybe even the bouquet if you can. Even though it's yellowish, it will still be beautiful!!!

Re: Question
I, too, think that's a great idea and a nice way to honor your mom for the day. You could also make a garter! Or maybe also ribbon or bow for a flower girl basket (if you're having one). Maybe you could also make a ribbon for your bouquet that way it's close to you. Anyway, I know your ? was for how to get the yellow out and I heard somewhere that unless there are many beads and stuff on it you can put it in the washer. But I think that would make me nervous so you should just go to a dry cleaner and get their input.

If you knew enough to write 'I don't mean to be nasty' ... then you most certainly meant to be nasty....
Anyway, I think it's a good idea to incorporate your mother's wedding dress into your own wedding somehow. Let us know how it works out.

Re: Question
Not to change the subject but white vinegar helps to get out yellowing and is safe on all fabrics. Make sure to test it on a small piece of the fabric just to be sure.

Wow-- TO YOU!!!! HOW COULD YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO SAY THIS TO SOMEONE IN THAT WAY!!!???
HOLY CRAP!!! I can't believe someone actually thought that...let alone POSTED IT! With the clause 'And I don't mean to be nasty'
I think that is a sweet and wonderful idea and you will be making your mommy proud! Just the fact that you want to use it is an honor!
