Question.......

MrsERod Posted:

Re: Question.......

guess it all boils down to peoples stereotypes about other ethnicities and/or cultures..
they have this predisposed conception about how Italians, Jewish, Puerto Rican or African Americans act, their lifestyle choices, mannerisms...etc....

am I making any sense...??

WOP stands for without papers ---

it refers to the early immigrants, saying that they were dirty, diseased, unwanted/unsponsored to come to America.

I find this the most offensive, to be honest

I'm glad i'm getting everyone's opinions on whether being offended by this term, b/c I honestly didn't know if Italians DO get offended by it. I guess if any term is used in a derogatory manner, then being offended by it would be a given. But I guess in this case, that's not what the person meant.

Doesnt bother me...BUT a LIW chic did tell me that I am a typical guidette and to go tease my hair..

NOW that pissed me off...only because she judged me based on my name and because I have natural curly hair....

mmmmmmmmmm i remember that lol

I think he was born and raised in Italy and came here as a teen. I think I read that the family moved to California. I wonder what his teen style was.

SO HOT!!

Re: Question.......

Yes, I find it offensive. Guido/Guidette ARE derogatory and racist terms geared at Italians.

Even if it's said to a non-Italian person, it has the connotation of 'you look like an Italian'. And, I have never heard is said in a positive, complimentary way.

So, yes, I believe very strongly that 'guido/guidette' are offensive terms.
