Re: Question about being at your cocktail hour
There is no announcement at the cocktail hour, only during the reception.
Typically, people use the cocktail hour for picture time. Nowadays, it's more common that the bride and groom take pics before hand, so they can enjoy the cocktail hour.
Also, usually, while the guests are eating in the cocktail hour, you, your groom and the BP are in the bridal suite where they have the same food as in the CH set up for you.

Re: Question about being at your cocktail hour
what I'm saying is if you come out for your cocktail hour than you really can't get annouced into the reception cause you were already out right ?Also when do you have time to bustle your dress and all the other little things you have to do? Do you get annouced into the cocktail hour or you just skip over the whole 1st time as husband and wife ?

No announcement...we just walked in and were surprised with a rousing round of applause, then we visited with as many people as we could. We left about 15 min early and were announced at the reception. Still felt special, still was wonderful. We would not have had it any other way.

I have been wondering the same thing! I guess since we're all spending extra $$ on the cocktail hour we'd like to enjoy it!

Re: Question about being at your cocktail hour
You get announced by the DJ at the reception and it shouldn't matter how many people saw you before this point!! What about the receiving line after the ceremony?? Technically they're seeing you then too!! Sometimes this is also done for those that only show up to the reception and not the ceremony!!
As for the bustle, I was wondering this myself. My MOH told me the best thing to do is to get it done BEFORE the reception, maybe during the cocktail hour. We wasted almost a half hour during the reception trying to get her bustle together!!

Re: Question about being at your cocktail hour
We hung out at the cocktail hour and then I went in early and got bustled, freshened up lipstick and we got announced after everyone sat down for dinner- it was still our first time being announced as Mr. and Mrs....

Re: Question about being at your cocktail hour
I'm going to get bustled before cocktail hour because trust me, if you don't, people will trip and walk all over it. A disaster waiting to happen Then go back in a few minutes before reception to get announced.

Re: Question about being at your cocktail hour
everyone sees you after the ceremony anyway - so how does being at the CH affect your reception intro?

Re: Question about being at your cocktail hour
we went to our CH.... we didn't want to miss the food we were paying for also... it was a great time to get all the small talk and greetings out of the way so that we could eat and relax during the reception

We will be at the cocktail hour -- and then announced right before the first dance, which is after the salad.

Re: Question about being at your cocktail hour
We went to our cocktail hour, then when our reception began we were formally introduced after our bridal party.

Re: Question about being at your cocktail hour
I didnt go to mine - we took extended family pics during that time....when we were done, DH went down for a few minutes. I wanted to keep an air of 'mystery' about myself since I was the bride, but thats just me. I am not saying that going to your CH is wrong, its all about personal preference. I dont think it would take away from the grand entrance at all, in fact its good in some ways because you can get some of the hellos out of the way and have more time during the reception.

The same thing happened to us but we left 10 minutes early from our cocktail hour.
