Question about bridal showers...

Original post by Mrs Z To Be

There are a few girls who are *sort of* within our large group of friends, but more on the outside. They are usually invited to the bigger things, such as weddings. Anyway, I invited them to our E party, and they are definitely invited to the wedding, but I don't really feel that they belong at the shower......is that wrong of me?

I disagree. The rule is that anyone invited to the shower must be invited to the wedding, not necessarily the other way around. I've been invited to plenty of weddings, but not always the shower, which is generally reserved for the closest friends and relatives of the bride.

ITA with this. I'd be having a 150 person bridal shower if I invited all the ladies, and for me, it's just too much for something that I'd personally rather be more intimate.

But it's completely a personal choice.

I think the 'rule' is that anyone you are inviting to the wedding should be at the bridal shower. I would invite them, especially since you had them at the e-party.

Unless your bridal shower is going to be more intimate with only family.

I agree with this. Not every girl needs to be invited. BUT, I think it might be odd that they were invited to the e-party and not the shower.

I disagree - I have gone to weddings where I was not invited to the shower, and was not offended at all.

I will not be inviting every single female that will be at our wedding to my shower - we have some of our parents' friends and co-workers coming to the wedding, in addition to wives/girlfriends of close friends. They will not be invited to the shower - they probably wouldn't want to come anyway! I don't see a problem with this at all.

yeah exactly, you do not invite everyone that is invited to the wedding to the shower however anyone invited to the shower has to be invited to the wedding. I would've had about 150 ladies at my shower if i followed this rule lol. ALL showers ive been to, NONE had all women invited. INFACT etiquette sites say DO NOT invite everyone invited to the wedding. Its more intimate and for your closest friends and family. That is why most showers are just lets say 30-50 ppl on average about. I had 60 ppl at my shower and some ppl made comments that it was alot or someone else i knew had 80 and same comments were made. IF you are having a smaller wedding then that is different, lets say you will have 80-100 guests at your wedding then half the ppl lets say if they are women that is 40-50 women which is average size of a shower and you probably know them well. But imagine those with weddings of 200-300 ppl or higher

Here is something i copied from a bridal shower etiquette site:
There's been an uncomfortable trend in recent years for large showers, where nearly everyone the bride knows gets an invite. This isn't quite what the bridal shower is supposed to be, though. At least by tradition, a bridal shower's meant to be a small, intimate gathering of the bride's closest friends and family.

Who the guest list should include: the wedding party, the mothers of the bride and groom, sisters of the bride and groom, and the bride's closest friends and/or coworkers. Contrary to some recent practices, it probably shouldn't include every woman invited to the wedding.

here is another quote from a different bridal shower etiquette site, ill post the link too

The Bridal Shower Guest List

All those invited to the shower should be on the wedding guest list. It is poor etiquette to invite someone to the shower and exclude her from the big day itself – more important, it's just plain rude since she'll be expected to bring a gift to the shower. However, not every woman invited to the wedding needs to be invited to the bridal shower.

You should invite:

· Mothers of the bride and groom
· Grandmothers/great grandmothers of the bride and groom
· Aunts
· Female Cousins
· Bridesmaids/female attendants
· Close friends of the bride and her family
· Close female business associates of the bride

If a guest you'd like to invite lives too far to make attending the bridal shower practical, it is still good etiquette to send her an invitation anyway to let her know you were thinking of her.

Re: Question about bridal showers...

I was invited to weddings but not the the bridal shower. I was always under the impression that it was only for close friends and family anyway.
