Question about catering halls........

When going to see a new catering hall, when do you usually get to try the food that they make?
we have gone to a few places and they show us the surroundings and prices but nothing is ever mentioned about food tasting. I thinks thats as important as anything else.

thanks girls

I went to about 6 halls & only had 2 food tastings. Generally, you get tastings when a wedding is taking place.

If you want, you can probably request samples.

i only went to one food tasting --which wasn't very good.
i don't think it's common practice for the places to let you taste the food.
we checked out about five places

You have to insist on tasting the food. Most places don't just volunteer. Most places say they 'don't do tastings'. You shouldn't book a place that doesn't let you taste their food. If they tell you you can taste it only after you leave your deposit -- tell them to write in your contract that your deposit is FULLY refundable with no further obligations if you don't like the food. If they won't do it, walk away.

Also, ideally, a tasting should be done from a wedding that is going on. This way, they are not just preparing a special meal for you on your tasting day. Instead, you get to taste what the food REALLY like while the hecticness of the actual event is happening.

Good luck! If you have any further questions feel free to FM me!

I went to a bunch of places before I booked. Sunset Harbour offers a tasting about once a month. The Holbrook CC had them, it was for free after you booked, they said if you complained enough they'd let you have the tasting before you book. Some places have showcases and that's where you can taste it. It really depends on the hall.

Hi I have a question about Sunset Harbour....i see that you're having you're reception there and i was wondering what the price range is. kind of on a budget (go ahead and laugh I think every bride to be says that) and was looking for something within about $13,000. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

The Miller Place Inn offered us a tasting when we booked. We took advantage and did it the last weekend in October. we wanted to see what the grounds and hall would look like that time of the season.

Re: Question about catering halls........

I would not book a reception hall without tasting the food first or having been to a wedding there. I heard people rave about the food at my place but had to know for myself. If you say that you won't book without a tasting first, I have a hard time believing that they would say no.
