Question about cats**NEED HELP!!**

I have a cat (Pedro), who is about 2 yrs old. I have had him since he was about 6 weeks old. Over the past few weeks, he has been waking me up in the middle of the night by meowing, scratching on the carpet, 'climbing the walls' (jumping up on the door jam), etc. I most always get up (and go to the bathroom) when he does this, and while up I check to make sure he has food and water, as well, he LOVES to play with water dripping from the faucet in the bathroom, so I will at times, let it drip for him. One of these remedies has been working. Until the past week. Nothing has been working for him. No joke, this week, each night he has woken me up at least 4 times per night! When I have to be up at 6:45am, that does not fly!

Any helpful hints?!?! Please do not suggest, playing with him during the day so he sleeps at night, I work and usually get home around 6:30-7pm.

Thanks!!

My cat does the same, we lock him out of our bedroom because he is always walking on my pillow and trying to lay right next to my face.

He mostly starts meowing and clawing underneath the door at around 7, sometimes in the middle of the night or before 7.

I also don't know how to make him stop. Sometimes when I wake up and then move in the bed or make a noise I hear him jump up and run over to my door.

My kitty also likes fresh running water from the sink.

Thanks Jola!
I had started a bad habit in letting him come in my room. A habit I think I have to start now b/c FH has already said he does not want Pedro to sleep in our room after we're married. I have 1 1/2 yrs to get Pedro out of the habit.

Xena does this too. I get up at 5:30am and one the weekends she thinks that I should be up at the same time too. Honestly ignoring the habit and letting her think it doesn't wake me up was one of the things that worked best. She will also do this sometimes during the week at around 3am because she is lonely. If she comes on the bed I will pull her down next to me to lay down and just hold her. She can only take this for a few minutes, and then leaves and I can go back to sleep in peace. Good luck as you know cats have minds of their own.

We try to ignore Misiu but he will meow and meow and I can't get back to sleep, so I end up opening the door.

Thanks! I wish this would work, but Pedro too will only stay a few minutes, if that! I am going to try and play with him a bit tonight, hopefully tire him out! Oh, and when he does bug me, I try and 'sleep' thru it, but he has been doing sutff like jumping on top of the dresser and knocking off stuff (he just started doing this).

Jola- I know what you mean, I have closed him out of my room (I live w/ my brother, when I close Pedro out, he leaves his door open) he'd still scratch at the door. That's SO hard to ignore.

My male cat also LOVES to drink out of the running faucet. I agree you have to try your hardest to ignore him waking you but maybe you can also try not letting him play with faucet water at night. Maybe he wakes you because he knows you will get up and turn on the water for him.

My cat use to wake us up every moring to go out on the porch but since we stopped letting him out at that time he knows not to cry early in the morning anymore.

Good luck. Ctas re crazy but you gotta love 'em.

IT WORKED! I played with Pedro last night, and also clipped his nails (he hates it, but at least he was awake) and he only bugged me once and I did not get up...just kind of rolled over and ignored him. YEAH!!!

I had made an appointment for him to get his yearly vacs on Monday at the vet!!! I was going to discuss his 'behavioral' problems. Also going to ask for suggestions on getting Pedro out of my room 'for good' at night.

Thanks to you all!!!
