Does anyone know if the Catholic church has any regulations on the bride's dress length? A friend of mine is getting married in October and is considering a short dress. She asked me if I knew, but I didn't, so I thought I'd come to the authorities. Thanks ladies!

She should ask her Church directly - each Church has different rules!

I haven't heard of any regulations on length, but I have heard of churches telling brides that their shoulders should be covered. I think every church or officiant may have their own spin on these things. To be really sure, check with the church.

Thanks ladies - I told her what you suggested. I had said the same thing about shoulders and length. She said she has a meeting with the priest this Thursday so she'll ask then. Thanks a bunch!

I hate to say it, but I think it's nuts that the church can tell people what to wear and how much should be covered...
1. We live in the year 2005....
2. You are paying to get married there! They aren't doing it out of charity, they are charing you a 'donation' of which they have told you how much to pay. If it was a donation like they say, you could give an unmarked envelope with a penny in it. Donations are at your discretion and TAX DEDUCTIBLE. I hate that they use the word Dontaion.

I asked my priest and it all definitely depends on the church...my priest says he doesn't care as long as nothing pops out....which apparently happened to one bride

I've heard of no aisle runners or throwing of petals outside the church, but no attire no-no's.
I think she will be fine with a shorter gown as long as it isn't a mini-skirt, LOL! That would be inappropriate, I think, regardless of what the church tells you what to and what not to wear....
