Question about donations instead of favors

Question about donations instead of favors

Hello,
1. I would like to make a donation to a charity instead of giving out wedding favors. My question is, what is the best way to go about this? Do you just donate one large sum (basically what you would of paid for favors) and let each guest know on a small card? Or do you divide the total amount among the guests and donate in each of their names?

2. Also, I was thinking of donating my centerpieces to a local hospital or church. I figured the ones that are left over on the tables, I could donate rather than having the hall throw them out??? has anyone ever done that? I have to provide my own centerpieces and it's just a shame to me to spend money on a beautiful floral centerpiece just to have some go to waste.

Thanks for any advice you can give!

These are very nice ideas! I also will be doing donation favors. But I havent decided or looked into how to go about this. I'm assumng and guessing that whatever you would have spent on favors is the amount you donate, at least that amount.

We just made a lump sum donation; we didn’t make it per person, but you can do it anyway you want. I’m sure the charity will be grateful for any amount you give. To let people know, we also put very small favors on the table. Inside the favor box were Hershey Hugs and Kisses with a note that read “hugs and kisses from the new Mr. and Mrs.” On the reverse side of the card we wrote that in lieu of traditional favors we made a donation to X charity. People loved them.

I think your idea of donating the centerpieces is a great idea. Let someone enjoy them.

We donated a lump sum to St. Jude. They gave us bookmarks with our names and wedding date on them to hand out at the wedding. I added sage ribbons to them. St. Jude still calls every once in a while to thank us.

The donation was also in FH's mothers name bc she passed a year before the wedding so they put in loving memory of her on it. It was really nice.

I looked into doing this aswell. I looked into the american heart association. They will send you a bunch of cards that can be worded to your liking. They do suggest however that you donate atleast $1 per card they give you.

We donated a lump sum to the charities of our choice and had it all on a donation card for each guest. We wanted to have the guests take something tangible home with them so with the donation card we gave them a personalized CD we created.

Those are fantastic ideas!!

FH's cousin donated money as a whole from everyone at the wedding basically to the American Cancer Society... She left a sweet little poem on a scroll that they printed and kept rolled with a ring. It was a way of giving back to her father who was very sick from cancer & to make a difference. I think it was a fabulous idea.

When you figure out what organization you want to donate to, you just contact them & theyll tell you exactly how to go about it.

there are organizations that will take your left over food and centerpieces and donate them to food kitchens and hospitals and nursing homes

I think most of the time it's done as a lump sum. I will probably be doing the ASPCA, and they give small placecards to put at the table. Depending on how sturdy they are, I may attach a Lindt truffle to it, or get small favor boxes to fill with the truffle or almonds just so the guests have a little something besides the donation card.

We are giving a lump sum to a breast cancer research organization...we havent decided which one yet.
It seems alot more brides are doing donations in lieu of traditional favors all of a sudden!!
