Has anyone gone to a wedding where there was a band, but the band did not perform the first dance song?
If so, did you think this was totally odd?

I think it would be a waste not to have the band perform the first dance song. Live music for the first dance would be awesome.

I was just at a wedding in December that had a fantastic band but they wanted to make sure that the wedding song was perfect so they had the original played. They did the same thing for the father/daughter dance and the mother/son dance. Everyone was so busy taking pictures and enjoying the moment that no one realized the band wasn't playing..it was beautiful!

I would definitely want the original played! I went to a wedding recently and they had a band, but a CD recording of their first song.
The first dance song should be the original one you fell inlove with. I don't care how good the band is, they can't do it as good as the orig singer.

Yeah, that's what we're doing DEFINITELY. The song is not well known and we want it to be played in the recorded version. Our band just said that they will bring a DJ rig for that purpose and will hook it up to their PAs.

My brother had a band at his wedding, and their first dance song was a recording of the artist on cd. No one thought it was odd at all.

i disagree. i want my band doing all our songs. they're amazing and can imitate practically anyone. i love the feeling of a live band.
therefore, i think either is fine, it's all a matter of opinion and what you feel is right. there is no right or wrong.

The one wedding i have been to that had a band had the original song played. It just wouldnt be the same if the org. singer wouldnt be played.
