question about greece

Hi everyone, I saw a post for honeymooning in greece in september. that is when we plan on going on ours. I saw the recommendations for different islands. I have a timeshare and want to use it for one week and then book another week in a really nice place, with a beach and some nightlife, but mostly a beautiful place. The timeshare could be for crete, rhodes, corfu, or myconos. And for the other week I thought of one of the aegean islands (hope I am saying this right), like lefkada. we like to party but dont want it to be like cancun. also maybe this is stupid, but do most people there speak english. and is there a simple money conversion so we can get an idea of the hotel rates. thanks so much in advance

Re: question about greece

Don't know about where to go, but Greece may have switched to the Euro (like much of Western Europe), so getting a sense of prices shouldn't be too hard.

Crete is very nice, it is different from the other islands you mentined. It is a bigger island and has cities also. In Crete you can have nice beaches and a busy city syle nightlife. Def check out Chania, Crete. Yes they do speak English it is not at all like Cancun.

Re: question about greece

from the islands you listed...crete, corfu & rhodes are all big islands and you will need at least a week to appreciate them. I don't think you will go wrong on any island but I've been to all and I love Mykonos the best. The beaches are beautiful and it does have a night life in town. Leftgada and Zakinthos are alse very nice.

Many do speak english...especially on the islands b/c of the tourism. Have fun.

As a proud Greek, I can tell you that many people do speak English and that Greece has changed to the Euro, yet many will still bargain for dollars. We got engaged in Greece In Septemebr and it's important to note that the season is coming to an end, so a bit of the nightlife has died down at that point. But, it is a bit cheaper. As the others said, you need a bit of time to take in the bigger Isalnds like Crete, etc. But of the prettiest my vote would be Rhodes. Santorini also has a bit of mystique and it was cool to hike up a non-functioning volcano. Let me know what I can help you with! It would be my pleasure!

I don't know much about the nightlife on Lefkada but it is one of the Ionian Islands and the Ionian Isles are known for having really amazing beaches.

Re: question about greece

I think the SandCastle has the same thing...if you book there you get a trip to Greece.

The Euro is a pretty easy conversion its almost 1 euro to 1 us dollar. I was just in Italy and it was really easy to convert money... it was like 1.10 euro to the dollar so basically 1 to 1.

Wow - I TOTALLY forgot about the summer olympics. When do they end in September?? We get married on the 3rd and would probably leave for Greece on the 5th. I'm screwed for Greece, aren't I??

Re: question about greece

The Summer Olympics in Athens are in August, not September so you have nothing to worry about. The games are from August 13-29 and they will be taking place on the mainland not on the islands.
