Question about inviting '& guest'

Question about inviting '& guest'

What are you doing for guests that are single over 18 still living at home but don't have a significant other? Are you supposed to mail them a separate invite inviting them with a guest?

I did not invite anyone with guest unless they had a significant other, or were in the bridal party. I kind of feel like I don't want random people at my wedding who may not be around for that long. Plus, FH and I are paying for the wedding ourselves and we didn't want to waste the money on people we'd never met who we'd likely never see again.

I am sending them an invite but they are not getting a guest. It gets too expensive.

I think that is completely up to you. We can't afford to invite all the single people with dates and we didn't want people just bringing random people just so they could have someone on their arm when they walk in the door. PLUS, some people feel releaved that they don't have to 'babysit' someone all night. If someone has been together for awhile and is serious then they get a date. If the person is 18 and older and doesn't have a significant other, then they get their own invitation but no guest.

Yes, over 18 and living at home gets a separate invitation.

The guests are something else--we are not inviting with guests unless we know they are in serious relationships. If you are inviting someone with a guest, you put 'John Doe + Guest' if they do not live together (even if you know the person's name) and John Doe + Jane Smith if they do live together.

We expect that some people will ask us to bring dates (most of our friends are married so the few that are single may feel uncomfortable) so figured we'd deal with it at the time.

Over 18 I'm def. sending them a seperate invite- they are adults. Also, I'm inviting everyone over 18 (even if they are single) with a guest.

At 18, i think they should get their own invite and a guest. They arent going to want to attend alone or just with their parents.

If they are over 18 years old the get a seperate invite regardless if you are inviting them with a guest or not.

We are in inviting everyone 18 and over with a guest -- separate invitation (whether or not they have a significant other...living at home or not).

I can't believe you have to send 18 year olds a separate invitation if they are living at home - that irks me!! My invitations are going to be kind of pricey!! Another reason I don't want to do this is because I don't want them to feel like they have to bring a separate gift - is that the idea with the separate invite? Sorry, I am naive about this . . .

I will be sending them their own invite but unless they are in a serious relationship they will not be getting a guest.

I hear you. I've been 'covering my plate' and then some since going to weddings at 18 and older. Whether I brought a guest or not... I always gave my own gift.....

I don't think it has anything to do with gifts - it is a matter of respect. It is respectful of an adult to send them their own invite, regardless of how old they are (18 vs. 85). I sent my aunt and uncle one invite, and then each of their kids (they have 4 who all live at home) their own invites as well - it's just the right thing to do!

I sent my cousin his own invite but with no guest since he is not with anyone at the moment.

Re: Question about inviting '& guest'

hmm, i started a thread on the 2010 board about 'guests' i think we are going to end up only having people in steady relationships bring someone, not just people who will bring someone random. Unless they do not know anyone elseat the wedding, then they can have a guest. We'll see, i think we're going to handle it on an individual basis.

As far as sending invitations to people living at home, i guess it seems like it is the etiquette to do that for each person. Seems a little crazy, and we have a ton of people 18-24 who still live at home. so in reality some homes can receive 5 inviations?? i cant imagine FH's 18 year old cousin caring if he gets his own invite haha, but i guess its the proper way.

You don't have to...I didn't. Whoops! I doubt any of my guests cared about that though. They do get a guest though. I just told them I counted a guest for them.
