Question about no meat on Fridays during lent...

Question about no meat on Fridays during lent...

I am catholic and was taught that you can't meat on Fridays during lent. Does that include chicken? Because I thought it did until some people here at work said you could have chicken, that's it's only red meat that you can't have.

can anyone clear this up?

I had always been taught no meat period. That always included chicken.

No chicken. Fish is OK. I usually eat pizza or pasta.

i believe its only red meat that cannot be eaten on fridays during lent. i think chicken is ok

Yes, it includes chicken. You can have fish though.

I could be wrong - but I was brought up believing that 'no meat' included chicken .. we never ate red meat, chicken, pork etc. on Friday's during Lent.. only fish or pasta

If you could ahve chicken, they'd we;d be having chicen fridays, not fish fridays.

On fridays my sister goes out and comes back with fish filets for us form mc donald's for lunch, and for the past few weeks she's had to wait a LONG time for the fish to be ready..there's no rush on chicken!

How strict are you?

The Catholic Church says that 'meat' is anything that comes from an animal that lives on land or a bird. That means, cows, pigs, chicken... all meat.

They consider fish a different category.

It's not a matter of being strict. There's no getting around the fact that the Catholic Church specifies that chicken is meat.

Mr Boot's family is Greek nd their lent started the other day. They can't have meat at all during lent. On Fridays it's no meat, eggs, dairy or olive oil and no eating until noon. There's something about not eating anything with blood...
