Hi - I'm 38 and FH is 39 and I've been wondering what to do re: envelopes being handed to us at the wedding.
I know so many of the ladies on here have made or bought card boxes for guests to put envelope gifts in at the reception but that is something that I've honestly never seen done at a wedding before - I think it seems more like a newer/younger tradition. I've always personally handed the card to the couple. My siblings all married over 10 years ago and some had bags to carry - others just kept handing them off to someone responsible to hold onto. My guests are all older than us and I just feel uncomfortable having that - but still want to make sure we're being careful about not losing any.
Any thoughts about this? Should I just be the first to start doing one? Thanks for your input.

Re: Question for 35+ brides re: card/envelope gifts
I would have a box left on the 'gift table' for the people who know about it and then of course you will still take envelopes from anyone that hands it to you. I mean, If someone hands me their envelope I'm not gonna be like, 'um no, you put it in that box over there' haha...
However, if you're walking around with one of those bags it is saying, 'I'm coming for my gift'- so expect EVERYONE to hand it to you then.
Another thing is that I have large favors so I will stack them around the gift table w/ my box so I am hoping at the end people who hand me their envelopes while I give them a favor will be standing near this table, so I can just stick them in the box. I mean, I think I'll just park myself there at the very end.

Re: Question for 35+ brides re: card/envelope gifts
we are both 39 and will not be doing a card box. Most guests want you to know that they are giving you the gift. I am going to designate one of my parents to be in charge of the envelopes.
I will not have any type of bag or anything like that. Many times the bridal suite might have a lock on it and your parents can put it in there. Also, today most people give checks so I'm not going to be that worried.

Card boxes/cages were a new thing for me. I did the tradtional card bag, carried it around for a while when guests started handing me envelopes, then left it with my Dad. I use it now for wedding memorabilia storage.

Don't be so trusting of the 'locked' bridal suite. Things have a way of going missing. It's a pain to figure out if a check went missing or if someone just skipped out on a gift to you.
Most guests give their envelopes towards the end of the reception, so you really should rethink the not having a bag or box thing. How are you going to carry all of them home ? I kept the bag under my table, and as guests started coming up to us with envelopes, my attendant grabbed it and handed it to me. I did not parade around the room with it.

My mom and I were just talking about this this weekend! I think at this point, we're leaning towards doing the bag v. the cardbox.

I am a 40+ bride and not doing the card box. It is tradition in my family to have the bridal bag and then give to the grandmother. Unfortunately, neither of my grandmas are here so I will be giving them to my mom

I am having a card box.....I dont want to have a family member responsible for them because it would have them tied to the table....Even with a cardbox people will still hand you the cards and then you can put them in the box.
and yes im over 35

I'm a 40+ bride. I am have a card box but it will be at a small table boxed in near my mom table with my mom and her brothers and sisters. Since they are all over the age of 70s, they will not be dancing. This is their time to talk about the old days and watch the box.
