question for brides with step-parents

Original post by gina&ken

is your step-father wearing a tux to the wedding? my mother and i are having a disagreement over this. i don't think he should be wearing a tux, i think that only my dad and the groomsmen (and of course FH) should.

Re: question for brides with step-parents

i had a hard time at first with the idea of him wearing one only because my father passed away and i didnt want to feel like he was his stand in because my father can never be replaced. but my mother asked me to do it and out of respect for her and he isnt a bad guy and does take care of her i agreed. just have him wear a different style tux and different color vest and tie so people dont get him confused with the wedding party

I hope my step-father is. I know my dad wants him to walk me down the aisle too (sf and mom have been married since I was 6 - and with my dad in VA SF kind of had more of a hand in raising me than Dad did).

I'm also going to have a song to dance with him at the reception - i chose 'Because You Loved Me' by Celine Dion. It's perfect :)

My FI stepdad wants to & we agreed he wont because we dont want to confuse people. I know most people will know who's who but some people won't! Either way I think it has to be what you & FI are mst comfortable with.

Re: question for brides with step-parents

My stepdad is. But, I have a pretty good relationship with my stepdad. My parents are divorced and both remarried, and my FH's parents are still married to one another. But, all six are contributing to the wedding - and so I am treating them all the same way. It's only fair, and by treating everyone the same, no one feels left out. Believe me, I've been to weddings where stepparents are left out, and the bad feelings it causes linger long after the wedding day. After all, he'll still be your stepdad after the wedding. I don't know if it's worth the battle. Good luck!

I don't have a step dad but my mom has been dating the same person for
10 years. And yes he is wearing a tux..The grandfathers are wearing tuxs
also...
IMO...wearing a tux does not define who the father is...When i walk out on
to the dance floor with my dad...people will know, When we are introduced
at the reception...people will know who my dad is...
IMO...i think you should make your mom happy and not worry ....people will
know who your dad is!

My stepdad is a groomsman so yes...but he would be wearing one anyway if he wasn't in the party.

Mine will and he will walk me down the aisle with my mother. I don't have any contact with my father so he won't be attending. My step father has raised me most of my life.

I guess each situation is different. I agree that everyone will know who your father is... and your step father is your mother's new husband ... unless you have bad blood I don't see anything wrong with it.

Good Luck!

I completely agree-- my step dad will be walking down the aisle with my dad's GF and they will most likely both stand under the chuppah with me and FH and our parents..

Everyone is part of our 'extended wedding party'.
