On the day of your wedding, how many people gave you actual wrapped gifts? Is a gift table necessary?
Were the gifts bought off your registry??

I am really supprissed in 2008 people brought at gift to a wedding. My FH is from upstate and his family and friends asked where do they gifts go. I told them 'you don't bring a gift just cash or a check. I cant believe people from LI would bring a gift. Now I am worried people will
WOW you actually TOLD them to give you cash? Thats very ballsy-a gift is a gift-the thought is what really counts
Well, people from upstate NY are such rubes, how would they know?

I'm not really sure who the was directed at here????
But I agree with PegaLega ... its pretty ballsy to direct your guests as to what you will and will not accept as a GIFT.

Re: Question for the married ladies
I only had one but that was after the wedding at our after party. So I found no need for one. I just recommend a card box thought for all the cards you will get.

1 person. We put it on the same table that held the card envelope. It was a sentimental gift.

I had maybe 5 gifts...out of 290 guests. but in my culture, custom dictates cash gifts. You may want a table just in case.

I get that they are from another area and things are different there-but to say NO GIFTS only cash is pretty expectant dont you think? And its rude-if someone told ME that as their guest I wouldnt give them anything just to be spiteful. A wedding isnt about what you get or how much you get its about celebrating and being with those around you that you love and care about...not them giving you money

I 100% agree with you. If I like someone enough to invite them to the most important day of my life, then I'm honored that they're there with me. Period. Any gift is icing on the cake. Whether it's $100, $500, or a toaster, it's more than I had that morning. And to imply that people from Upstate are country hicks because they would dare to give you a gift instead of an envelope (when it's 2008, and we should all be so civilized as to bring cash to a wedding)... that comment just rubbed me the wrong way.

Re: Question for the married ladies
I didn't mean it in a rude way. He family asked and I told them the truth. I have been to many weddings upstate and people had jeans on, polos, sneakers, and one we had to use a porter potty b/c it was a church hall. I am not going to lie to them. I really didn't mean to hurt anyone if I did. Sorry

You didnt hurt my feelings-you just have to be careful how you word things. B/c in your post its seems like you said dont give me a boxed gift, NY isnt the only place people give only cash-but most places boxed gifts are accepted and usually that is what the B&G want-cash gifts are only normal here. My response to that would have been-cash is the norm but anything is ok boxed or not...make sense

We didn't get any wrapped gifts, everyone gave us a card with cash or a check. A gift table wasn't necessary but we did have a table with a card box.
Ditto!

Re: Question for the married ladies
Out of 170 only 4 people actually brought a wrapped gift. It was from our registry (thank God) and there was a small table provided by the CH and they put the gifts on there. I knew our guests would most likely be bringing cards with checks so I didn't really worry about having a lot of space for gifts.

Re: Question for the married ladies
we got about 6 gifts. They weren't off the registry, just stuff they found. Our gifts ended up being on the same table as the cardbox.
