Re: Question for those who are having church ceremonies

I went to a wedding a few weeks ago and the priest explained at the mass why the kiss was taken out of the wedding cermony. I dont remember the exact wording but it was something to do with the second vatican council and they took it out of the cermony. He said that he would still allow the bride and groom to kiss though. But I am assuming at very strict church's that it is not done anymore.
My church is allowing us to do it. We are not allowed to throw anything, and pew bows need to be on in a way that does not damage the pew they didnt say anything about the runner but I am not sure if i am going ot use one anyway since the Asile has carpet on it and the runner might make it slippery

Re: Question for those who are having church ceremonies

We cannot have anything thrown outside, no picture on altar, cannot change wording of vows( the vows are the sacrement so they cannot change the words) and not our own vows. In a Catholic church you could never do your own vows...but you can talk to them about saying how you feel about each other, its completly different, just dont use the word Vows...instead you may be able to do liek a speech to each other you created.

Re: Question for those who are having church ceremonies

No, the only things we could not have are fresh petals for the FG to drop on the aisle and no throwing rice.

Re: Question for those who are having church ceremonies

We can have the unity candle, our own vows (must be approved by priest first), first kiss, plus things thrown outside (limited to rice, not birdseed). The odd thing that struck me is that we have a very limited selection of what readings we can use, and I don't find any of them particularly meaningful, or appropriate.

Re: Question for those who are having church ceremonies

Keep in mind that there are tons of different 'churchs' ..Luthern, Episcopal, Roman Catholic etc...all will have different rules. Roman Catholic is obviously the strictest of the faiths and thats why we were told no word changes at all or our own vows, as Catholic vows themselves as worded are the actual sacrement...BUT we also we not allowed to even get married at my Episcopal church while FH's Catholic church saw nothing wrong with it....its confusing.

Re: Question for those who are having church ceremonies

LMFitz-
If you are Catholic, you might be able to choose other readings than what they give you in that book. We chose a different gospel, because I had one in mind. I also blended the prayers of the faithful to suit what I liked. Ask the priest if you are limited to just those readings.

It's weird, my church doesn't allow rice, but they do allow birdseed. It is the idea that you are throwing away food, while people in the world are going hungry. I guess they figure the birdseed will get eaten we are doing bubbles, because I just couldn't picture myself getting pelted by birdseed, no offense.....

I am Catholic, and I actually did ask the priest if I could stray from their options - and he told me no! We're still so far away that I think I'll find some other readings that I like and present them to him to see if he's OK with them. I know his concern is that the messages that the readings convey are in line with what they want to hear. He said we could write our own vows, but have them approved by him first - so I'm hoping that I can slide the readings in under the same context!

As for throwing stuff, I was told that birdseed and rose petals would stain the cement in front of the church - and that's why we have to use rice or bubbles. I guess each church is different!
